Everything you're seeking is on pages 72-73 of The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition,
including step-by-step instructions and a diagram..
This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

IMO you should consider investing in a Legacy or TMCC operating system for your
FasTrack, with the advent of Command Control low voltage wireless switches, there is no need for running a bunch of switch wiring to an AIU too control FasTrack switches any more. The Legacy Cab2 or TMCC Cab1 will operate CC FT switches from track power as many as you will ever need. My only mistake was not adding Legacy to my DCS layout as soon as the FT CC switches were invented. The FT CC switches work great with all the different kinds of O gauge trains, including Tin Plate, original or Repro, no wiring required. This also opens up a lot of Legacy engines to add to your layout, to be controlled from either DCS hand held remote control or the Legacy Cab2 or TMCC Cab1. Command Control FasTrack Switches are serious stuff!

Thanks for your suggestion however I have already invested in the dcs but its something I can add on later. Thanks
NSY,
Visit this post... all is explained!

I have done this and would recommend using AUX power for switches and just leave the provided lever controller connected as it was. The controller LED will indicate red/green even if the command to change comes from the AIU, (or if you push the switch rail with your finger!)

I downloaded the book by Barry and on page 72-73 it shows the hook up but nothing is shown about the yellow wire and could I use phone wire for this. Al can I use the z4000 accessory ports as a separate power source and would i use the 14 or 10 watt power port on the z4000
NSY,
the thread I referred you to explains the yellow wire. I would use the 14 volt (not watt) fixed outputs on the z-4000.

Got it thanks ! I didn't realize it was the lamp wire. What about the gauge wire size to aux in and aux out to the transformer 14 volt, and gauge size wire switch to AIU?
I would think that phone wire would be fine. I use Cat 5 network 8 conductor for all my switching wires, remote and power. A pair of 16AWG to a central point, then all the switch aux feeds split from there.
IMHO,
Ed
Great thanks
