YES I LIKE THAT
For me, it's the bigger the better. For now, my UP #80 Coal Turbine is King, closely followed by my C&O M1 Turbine. Once the N&W 2300 arrives, all bets are off.

Plain old Southern Ry AGS workhorse Mikado by K-line.
I like my Williams Reading FM. Also the lionel C P Rail Lionmaster.

Mine is my Legacy PM 1225. Unfortunately, it won't see much layout time until the track improvement program is finished. I need to replace a lot of O36 with O72 or bigger.
Here's mine!

I have a lot of favorites but these two look good....
Postwar 681 and 2046....

Can't go wrong with a War Bonnet F-3.
I want to say my Allegheny 2-6-6-6; I really do... but it's been somewhat of a problem child and has exposed my layout for what it really is: not really ready for articulated steam. In that case, I have to go with the PS-2 converted Williams E-7. I have a special place in my heart for PRR E-Series diesels, and this one fits the bill.
I really love my Milwaukee rd's 261 & 265 but my favorite is lionel's jlc series Allegheny & n&w y6 those two are no frills coal dragging steam engines.
That's easy,

I couldn't agree more. Those are two fine-running and good-looking locomotives.
Santa Fe Jim: Is that an Athearn Hustler? Blast from the past with rubber band drive to boot!
Nick, killian is correct...it is a Lionel LionMaster locomotive. The Lionel logo on the front was added by me...I covered the SP. I also re-lettered the tender to Lionel Lines. The item number is 6-11107. These pop up on ebay here and there. I bought mine on the secondary market and couldn't be happier with it. The sounds and performance are incredible. It looks very good on my O-60 and O-72 curves.
Good luck with the search!

Does a Lionel 381E or 402 count?
God Bless,
Pappy
My all time favorite real locomotive is the Allegheny! No question! I used to love going to the Dearborn Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village in Michigan to see this majestic & most perfect of all steam engines.
My favorite model is the Hudson & Lionel's original prewar 700e is my favorite! The 763e & 773 are a close second. I even like the reissue 763 from the 90's, though not so popular with others. My favorite diesels are the 2343 Santa Fe & 2344 NYC sets.
To tell you the truth, I almost never met an engine I didn't like!
Right now it's my Marx 999 and my Marx 1666....
My favorite tends to be whatever I'm running any given week. This week, it's WBB New York Central F-3's and a GP-9.

Far & away, the new S-3.
Under legacy control, I find watching it run with smoke pumping while listening to its majestic sounds pure enjoyment..
Simply the best ever...

CandO;
I have the same loc and it is a favorite.
A question for you: Would you be able to post a short video of yours in action?
The reason I ask is I have always been somewhat suspicious that the chuff sounds on mine are not quite right. Sometimes it sounds right on, and other times it seems to "miss" chuffs sporadically. Kind of weird.
Anyway, thanks.

Ohhh this is tough!!
Fave electric -
Fave steamer -

Yes, That is a Hustler. Circa 1961- rubber band drive. Retail price $5.95. I wonder how many forum members, besides you, recognized it.

Rod, shortly after buying it, mine started doing that. I opened the tender and found that the sound board wasn't seated all the way. I pushed it in place and all was fine. A few weeks later, the same thing happened. This time I carefully wrap a zip-tie around the boards and the sounds have been fine since.
For conventional runners, Mike Reagan said that the same sound issue can also be present if the track voltage drops below 9.
Below is a video. If you forward to 3:10 you can see the cab-forward running all the way until 5:40. Later it appears again and at @ 6:20 there is a sound stutter...that was a known fault of that section of track not the loco. I don't have a battery installed in it either.
Another favorite of mine is seen in the above video. It is the Lionel LionMaster Pennsylvania T1.
I don't have that many so they all are my favorites.

Cando;
Many thanks for posting that video. Nicely done.
Yours sounds like I thought they should.
I picked mine up on the used market about 2 years ago and it has always had sporadic sound, but I did not think it was right.
I will definitely check the sound board and see if thats the culprit.
I run mine using DCS so low track voltage should not be the issue.
The whistle and everything else sounds just fine.
Thanks again.
