Yes, That is a Hustler.  Circa 1961- rubber band drive.  Retail price $5.95.  I wonder how many forum members, besides you, recognized it.

I had one of those back in the day (1966 or so), exact same color.  If I remember correctly, this little guy could really move fast.

I thought it might have been Lionel's offering of the Hustler. Not too familiar with their offerings in HO. Probably not too many here know what a rubberband drive is either.

Without a doubt, I lose 50 years of age when I run my N&W 746 on track 1.  she is numero uno, and track two carries the NH EP 5 from a year before, 1956.

Never a bad day at Chisel Creek Yards.  Right up to Milwaukee Road S-3, and all the other Vision Line engines I have today.  Classics have a charm, and lower my perceived age.

My favorite is the one I do not own yet.  I pair of Chessie Diesels, one WM and one C&O pulling a long string of coal hoppers.  I used to see these all the time out of my dorm room window in the 80's... presumably after Conrail acquired them but did not yet repaint.

My problem is I keep getting the kids the engines they like and delaying my gratification.  And if MTH ever makes Strasburg #90, my wife wants that one.

Very nice Triplex but what's non- prototypical about it.  It ran but not very well from what I have read.  Unless you are referring to the rolling stock be hind it????/

It is non-prototypical in that Great Northern never rostered any (oh and its a RailKing Imperial model so not scale either). From what I've read the prototype was steam and traction (when tender got light) limited. But this model pulls (or pushes) with the best of them.

They don't know how lucky they are.  I had a Hustler and a pair of Athearn NH F-units with rubber-band (they called it "Hi-F") drive.  What a miserable system.

I was waiting for this to arrive before commenting. This new 3rd Rail Santa Fe 2900 Class Northern is my FAVORITE!  Every time I go downstairs and look at it I admire it more!  It's a masterpiece, just take a look at the finer detailing.  Just click on the picture and pop it out to the larger size and take a look.
