Sounds are a definite.

I have already figured out how to download sounds from the net and load them in ITunes.

I can then send the sounds to an Apple TV using Airplay into my receiver and from there, to speakers. The sounds of a station are going to be great. I have fourteen speakers surrounding the layout and a huge subwoofer. We had about 100 people over last Saturday and when I cranked the sound of a diesel roaring, the crowd went wild !

Scrappy, is there anymore you can tell us about how you bring the sounds to your layout?  For example, how you download sounds from the net and load them in iTunes?  The process of getting the sounds from the net to your speakers sounds pretty complicated.  Is it?  Bo

Eliot, I was about to ask you about the station. Really neat that Trainworx renamed it too. I look forward to seeing it installed, after seeing the model on Roger and Dorcie's stand at York, I know how great it will look.

all you need is an apple computer an apple TV a tuner and speakers the sounds are actually coming from the apple computer or any apple device that has the airplay feature.

I can listen to music from my IPad using airplay to apple tv and my home theater system and it will also work using wireless speakers the how to I don't know on that part.

what scrapiron scher did wish I lived close to him I'd ask him if I could come and see a demo of it as if he has a good sub woofer and speakers I'll bet it sounds sooooo good.

can you by any chance recreate a sample for us as a video or will it all sort of get lost to the real thing in person?

The wood planks set in the ground along the track next to the tanker siding and the fueling of the locomotives directly from the tankcars is real news to me, something I had not seen previously - such an interestng detail. I think I see a cobblestone pavement within the panorama, too. Do you think you might decide to include those details, as well, in your modeling, Mr.  ?

Congrats Eliot!!  By the way, I too am using sounds on my layout.  My method is much less advanced than yours though.....  I have recorded sounds off the net, burned them to CD and then play the CDs through inexpensive players located next to the amp within the control stands.  I have speakers located under the layout at various locations / scenes.  For instance, in the downtown area I have a couple of speakers that play city sounds...ie......sirens, horns honking, church bells, traffic sounds, etc.  I keep the sounds at a level that during operations are realistic....but I can crank them up too!!
