I can't believe how difficult it is to find the recommended 6 conductor crossover telephone wire to hook up an AIU. I have to be looking in the wrong place or looking at the wrong thing. I'm using DCS and Z Stuff 2500 model switches which are ready to go.

Any suggestions on a supplier? I've searched the forum but didn't see anything in regards to sources.

Thank you, Terry

Hi Gregg,

Do you mean this one? Specs don't list # of conductors-only 1 reviewer hinted that it has 6 conductors. @$.48\ft. it's pricey, compared to Cat5e at $.19 or cheaper if you find a local seller on the list or the thermostat wire. You do have to cut the connectors off ...modify the cable.

Before you buy that cable, look closely, they have both 4 and 6 conductor cables.

You do not want the 4 conductor cable.

Actually, the 6 conductor is a wall connection, not the handset.  The Handset cable is at maximum a 4 pin cable using the RJ9 connector, that's all the jack size accommodates.  The RJ25 plugs have six conductors, they connect from the phone instrument to the wall connection.

However, you're right about the six conductor, you need them all for the AIU connection.

From his March 18 post:

"Now I'm syncing up. I don't need any connectors, and wire size in both cases is good. Thank you both for the info! Terry"

Well, the OP hasn't replied for sometime. When he said he didn't need connectors, I determined that he wanted the AIU to accessory wire.

Isn't the modular cable included with each AIU for TIU to AIU connection or for daisy chaining connections?

Sorry everyone. Work travel got in the way of staying up to date. Funny thing about that!

Moonman. I do have the furnished crossover wire for the AIU to the TIU.

I'm getting out the book and directions again this evening. It sounds and looks to me that I was mixing up this crossconnector that was provided and the AIU to accessory wire.

Dan. Thanks for the resource!

I'll be back on line this weekend with the real deal and see if I've been barking up the wrong tree as I learn more about DCS.

Thanks again for ALL the replies.  Terry

Alright gunrunnerjohn, I'll fess up and tell a story on myself! Moonman nailed it. I had been putting a lot of hours in at work and the only time I had to read and work on trains was late at night.

I was getting ready to hookup the AIU to the TIU and get some switches installed for DCS.

I "THOUGHT" I read that I needed the 6 conductor crossover telephone wire. I spent several days on-line searching, checking out the forum, etc. and just couldn't get there (again in the wee hours of the night) and decided to post.

It wasn't until the end of the post that I was able to re-read the information and saw that the 6 connector crossover tele wire was the phone plug look alike for the AIU to connect to the TIU (and of course it came with the AIU).

So, not only did I look for the wrong thing, I need to apologize to EVERYONE who posted trying to help. I was only in need of the accessory wire which I have and you can get anywhere. My apologies ALL.

gunrunnerjohn. Thanks for asking the question. I need to get the missteps out there and will try not to do this again (although electricity is not my best skill set).

Thanks again everyone, Terry
