I don't know what it is, but the activity this year seems to be way up in the past month or so as compared to previous years. I attribute some of it to the Berkshire and other current and upcoming releases. And the addition of the sponsors to the forum contributes a lot of activity as well. But I think aside from that, activity still seems way up. Either the current members are just posting more often or we have a bunch of new members. I can no longer even read all the threads each day that I want to. Especially with all the photo albums and videos this time of the year. It's a great problem to have but also frustrating. I will just have to block out some time in the weekends to catch up each week.

Wonderful, isn't it!
I think this is about what it has been in the past. I was actually wondering today if the volume is down a bit. Come the onset of winter this forum always seems to kick into high gear.
Just wait a month until the new Big Boy and some of the other Late December deliveries arrive and watch it take off!
I think there have been of late many hot topics like the PE 1225, Cab Forward, and other recently shipped Berkshires. I see this as a very positive sign as it clearly demonstrates that this is the place to be to talk O-Gauge trains.
Thanks to Alan Arnold, our advertisers continue to grow and that is a good sign as well.
I look at this as "all good".
I agree with Lee, it's once again the train season. Does this every year. Things will slow down in the spring when the weather starts getting nicer again.
Thanks Brian....we have the advertisers and sponsors..AND..our subscribers for the success we are experiencing right now.
By the way, our pages views have been growing at a very fast pace this year....we are up over this time last year in posts, views, click throughs, etc. About 8 million pages views last month!!
Thanks EVERYONE!!
Alan
My own activity has increased, and I'm finding it difficult to sort between the notices as one popular thread can easily lead to 100, or more notices each day. More on weekends!(200+) Basically requiring "scanning" the forum twice, once for mail, once for on the site. Moving between the two, to delete the old as I read, doesn't help.
Neither does constant page resets, accidently closing a tab, etc. A better Email site with good filter features might help. The order Hoop.la sends info, conflicts with MS Outlooks filter choices for keeping only newest mails on any subject. So I can only sort by date, or person. Even sorted by conversation doesn't help. Companies copying Face Book, and smart phones, are making computers harder to use not easier. Im miserable dealing with that "simple" stuff of today. I do not find either "intuitive" only confusing, even after 30 years at a keyboard. And Chrome & F.F. both crash too often for me to want to ever use them regularly again.
The answer I received most often from members when I asked for a sorting suggestion? Stop following, stop notices. About as helpful as a kick to the pants on a high-wire really. But I do just try to focus/limit myself more. Ironic situation, "be less social" being the popular solution for managing input coming from a site meant to encourage social interaction.
Yes, it's hard to keep up with year end tasks at work and hobby ideas storming in. Need more time for both.
Easily solved. Read only what interests you, ignore the rest. Works for me.

Yup!

Yes, good advice.
Also -- after thinking about it made me realize that I probably only read a very small fraction of the forum on a regular basis. When you consider all of the forums other the the "main"one, there's quite a bit of material here. I guess where I'm going with this is not sure I could ever "keep up" (as the OP says) even if I wanted to.
This forum is a busy place for sure. Some of the 'busy' model car forums don't have 1/10 the activity.....so busy is GOOD!!!
I agree with Texas Pete,I only read what interest me or I would be on here 24/7.

I am baffled ….I didn't realize that keeping up with OGR forum was a requirement in life.Nick
Well Nick....now you know...

This forum is fun AND it allows us to have our 15 minutes of fame by showing our expertise, helping others, and just blowing off steam. Where else can you find an audience who will take the time to at least listen to your opinion about things? If we had more of this, we would probably have less depression in the world and people would feel greater self-worth. Probably much cheaper and more effective than psychotropic drugs or psycho-analysis! Viva la forum!!!!
GG-1fan you are right on track. What gets me is I know there are guys at work that have trains but knock me for expressing my interest. Like is not macho. i enjoy my time on the forum.

I remember WAY back when this forum was just getting rolling that I used to read virtually EVERY thread! Or at least OPEN every thread to decide if I wanted to read it or not. Now I'm lucky if I notice all of the thread titles!

This being is the only forum I have ever joined or even participated in.
I think in recent years I have enjoyed reading the members posts more than the local newspaper.
I do think it's especially interesting during this time of year with all the holiday layouts being shared.
