ok so I bought a SP Dash 9 yesterday from a local hobby shop with legacy and all that on it and the store didn't have a legacy system at the time to test it in that mode but did have TMCC and the engine was running great. I get it home and set up on transformer mode but get no movement or horn but do get the engine sounds lights and smoke. it sounds like it wants to engage with the reveing sounds but won't move. Then switch it to legacy get it dialed up have lights and smoke but no sound. I can power the loco up but, other than that it does nothing very confused as to what i'm doing wrong and came to see if anyone here had any ideas.A few things i'm not sure have to do with anything or not but, i've had this legacy system since Lionel came out with the system and i'm sitting on version 1.3 atm. And I'm wondering if that having this loco on an older version of legacy is adding to the problems, my set up right now is just a loop of track while i work on planning a new layout so its nothing complex track wise so i'm really confused.

First, check to see if all of the switches are all in the appropriate position under the shell. Then, you might want to reset the locomotive by hitting the reset (R) button on the Legacy remote. If neither works, then a wire might have come loose inside the unit. Also, it doesn't hurt to update both the base and the remote to Legacy 1.52 over on the Lionel site. Download the Legacy System Utility and make sure you have a black rewritable module. Only one is needed. But, just remember to update the base before you update the remote.

I do not understand the above two statements.
are you running in conventional mode or do you have a Legacy system?
please provide the 6- number

Reset worked! now off to enjoy this loco thanks for the help guys!
You're welcome. Glad to hear everything is running as it should. You might want to take the time to update the Legacy base and remote to the latest version at some point to get the most out of the locomotive. There is a great tutorial on Lionel's site on how to exactly do that, which I've included below.

if your Legacy system is hooked up to your layout you can not run in conventional mode. the reason is the engines default mode is to look for the Legacy signal.
glad you were successful.
