We are in the same boat, Forrest. We had a Christmas Open House scheduled yesterday, but with snow and ice, we moved it to this afternoon. Most coming have not seen the layout, but we are ready.
Good luck to both of you.

Do you open up to the public? or just family and friends.
I had a large gathering on Thanksgiving, most of whom never saw my home layout, its modest but all were impressed

Something always seems to go wrong when new visiters show up, so if that happens, you are not alone. I usually tell new people that I love playing with trains before I show the layout. That usually has them ill prepared for seeing elaborate, detailed scenics. Most realise that a lot of skill and work goes into the hobby.
So everything was going fine. Three different adults each operating trains. Was monitoring the speed of one operator and didn't notice that the California zephyr had uncoupled in the middle until the lead WP F3 A nailed the obs car.
Yikes!
This was a group from a fraternal organization we belong to. The last guest just left. They had a marvelous time and they all enjoyed the North Pole with the Gold Berkshire and matching passenger cars. None had seen anything like it.
So many commented how the layout reminded of the time when their dads and moms had a Christmas display with Lionel trains.

Yikes!
So much for those lobster claw couplers.
I guess "Mr Murphy"was one of the guests! He always comes uninvited when I have guests over!

I'm glad it went well, but not surprised.
Hopefully you have kindled that special nostalgic fire in a guest or two and they will buy some trains of their own.
