I have been looking for some cheaper flashing crossing signals and came across this auction on ebay

Does anyone have any experience with these flashers?  I am aware that they are DC powered, so I will have to buy some rectifiers to run them from my AC transformer (I assume this would work?) I emailed them and they said that the infrared sensor is included with the item.  Any experience?

While you wait for it to arrive, consider using an assembled voltage regulator module like this.

LM2596 module with bridge

Search eBay for "LM2596 module" and I see several for just over $1 with free shipping.  Then add a bridge rectifier, set it to 12V and you're good to go.

Usually these guys post the schematic or will supply it to you.  They might advise you on how to double up on the infrared LED/photo-transistors to get, say, bi-directional triggering if that's useful to you.

You might also ask them the operating voltage range rather than just 12VDC.
