I have flourescent lights in my train room that must be at least 35 years old so I don't know what kind they are but when I have ever replaced one (which is only a couple of them) I just went to the store and bought a standard one.  I can't say I have noticed any damage to anything from them.  This is a non problem.  Anyhow, I think the sun on the real thing must be a lot worse.  It boggles my mind how some guys worry about flourescent lights effect on their layout and other guys go to a lot of work to age and weather their stuff.
