I've been trying to find the Tomar website and can't find it.  This ( http://www.tomarindustries.com ) doesn't work.  Any reason?

From another forum, here's the story:

I just spoke to Duane, the owner of Tomar Industries.

He and Marie are alive and well, and they are still in business.

He said that someone dropped the ball on renewing their web site domain for the coming year, and they are working to restore it.

That is good news.

Looks like they can just renew it.  Sometimes poachers come along and sit on an expired domain name for ransom.

It may be some time before Tomar gets their domain name back...if ever. There are companies out there that constantly scan the internet looking for expired domains. When a name expires, they snap it up within seconds of its expiration. When the original domain name holder tries to get "his" domain name back, they end up paying a hefty premium to get it back. It may not be ethical, but it is legal.

Some years ago I tried to help a friend of mine who lost his company domain name for this very same reason. He never did get it back. The company that owned it wanted $25,000 for it. That was far beyond what my friend could justify or afford.

I am responsible for somewhere around 40 internet domain names for various web clients. They are ALL set on AUTOMATIC RENEWAL. It is one less thing to worry about and it makes sure the domains NEVER get out of my control. I get an email when a domain renews and then I bill the client for the renewal. I am shocked that this kind of protection was not in place for Tomar.

I used different companies for registering the name (namecheap.com) and hosting (the abysmal serversanddomains.com). For the name I could buy 10 years into the future. For the hosting its year by year.

It is possible that Tomar had it set up for automatic renewal, but the owner's credit card number was changed, so the renewal didn't happen.

I was one of the select few that used a credit card at Home Depot, my credit card company sent out new cards with new numbers and some chip inside that looks kind of like the pad layout of an old GSM phone SIM card.
