Found this neat little thing at my local supplier.  As many of you know, I have a "bargain" store nearby that has a nice variety of cars for $2.00 without box or $3.00 with box.  This one had the box....but still not a bad price.  It is an "American Classics" car and is very nice for the price.  I haven't looked at what these normally cost.....  If you right click on each picture and then click on "open link in new window" you will get a very nice full screen shot showing the details....

Guys...I am about to go into a meeting but just a quick reply.  This bargain store is just a local establishment.  They buy out overstock and out of business inventory.  I have shared with others who they are but so you don't waste your time, this store will not ship....Others have contacted him about this already.  He doesn't even do any of the auction sites.  I could sell them to you as suggested above but I doubt knowing my price, anyone on here would be willing to pay a couple bucks more for each car plus shipping.  We would be talking about around 5.00 per car and then the shipping.  Only way to do it would be to purchase in quantity...say 5 to 10 or more.  If you are really interested, this guy has all kinds of 1/43 vehicles.  I have probably purchased over 200 from him at this point....

Gotta go....my client needs me!!

Alan

The Bird is a '55 or '56 - hard to tell the difference. I've seen cars like that elsewhere. The CVS drugstore near my house has a big rack of toy cars, including a T-bird that looks just like that one, a '55 Nomad, a '57 Chevy, and a couple of other interesting steam era cars, but they are getting more than $3 for them - $5 or 6, I think. There's a dollar store next to the Safeway where I get groceries - I'll have to check them out next time I buy food. Maybe they'll have some cars for cheap.

OK...done with the quickie meeting with my client.

First...these are the Motor Max Premium series.  These are NOT the motor max cars that you see in drug stores or at Walmart with the opening doors and lids that have large gaps, etc. Also, they are NOT the current run of modern vehicles that you so often see that have a cheap look to them.  I think my pictures reveal that this is a decent looking car for the $$$.

A quick look on the Bay under completed auctions reveals that these sell for as much 20 to 30 dollars if we are looking at the muscle cars.  Some of the non-muscle cars go for around either side of 10 bucks.  So...I am not unhappy with what I paid.

Dennis....all of the cars that this store has are not the same manufacturer or series but the lack of common cars from the 40s and 50s is an industry problem in this price range for whatever reason.  Most of the cars this guy has are from the 50s and 60s.

I haven't considered reselling them....and still don't know if it would be worth it in my time and investment...packing, etc.  Think of it this way, to make $20.00 selling the cars for $5.00 each, I would have to sell 10 of them not including shipping costs. The only way to make the shipping reasonable would be to spread the cost over multiple pieces in the shipment otherwise I don't think most of you would be interested.  Anyway, if there are those of you that want to populate areas on your layout, let me know and perhaps we can figure something out...

This is what the store has in stock....ALL of the versions of the New Ray cars and pickups.  Many of the Yat Ming cars and a few of the Premium Motor Max cars like pictured above.  In addition he has a bunch of the Road Signature series.  All of these cost me 2 to 3 dollars each depending if they have the box.  Finally, he has some nicer vehicles as well and a collector of larger scale cars would go nuts in his store...but for whatever reason he doesn't want to pack and ship.

My Rite Aid has a display full of 1/43 scale cars. They often go on sale for $3-4 each. And the cars vary all the time as they sell off. If I see one that looks good I go to the school supply isle and grab a ruler. I check the wheelbase. If a 57 Thunderbird has a wheelbase of 12 feet I know it's way too big.....or a Caddy with a WB or 8 feet.....too small. I don't need EXACT scale but not WAY off  I pass.

I checked E-bay and found no completed auctions for the Premium series of Motor Max cars that didn't total $10.00 or more...  Motor Max makes different series of vehicles and the lesser expensive ones are not as nice as the Premium series.  There are several on e-bay that you can buy for 3 or 4 dollars but they are not the same detail level as the T-Bird pictured above.

Like I said, I will get back with those that are interested and see what I can do for you.  Probably would cost somewhere around 10 bucks to ship as many as one could get in a standard USPS priority box...still less than I have seen them anywhere.

Nice lineup TMack!!  Your T-Bird is a good one.  You can see why I like the $3.00 price!

I finally found the listing on the bay and saw that your car cost $5.98..shipping was $2.38 and it was listed as "used" (who cares, it looks new!).  Anyway, this is a good example of what would be about the best price one could get for that kind of quality and detail.

I like the orange "welly"....can you post closeups of it and tell more about how it compares to the other two.  By the way, the Road Signature cars are usually very nice for the price!

Alan

two years ago I could swing a dead cat and find Road Signature cars at $6.50 a piece, I should have bought a truck load.  No one local is stocking them anymore.  I have found a few things here and there.  My $20 funeral hearse turned into a $400+ resale that funded a bunch of stuff on my layout this year.

$6-$8 per vehicle does not sting too much.  $3 would be fantastic.

I got the Welly 1953 Bellaire out of the CVS bin ($7.00), all the others I returned as they were huge.  Made the Road Signatures look tiny.
