Work has begun on the former ATSF 2nd district (Pasadena Subdivision) to remove track and single track bridges to make way for new Gold Line light rail extension from Pasadena to Azusa, California.  This line will eventually go all the way to Ontario International Airport in California.  Work began this week in Arcadia, Ca.  This new section will go 8 l/2 miles with double track and catenary.  This historic line used to be the route of the Super Chief and other Santa Fe name trains.  All that traffic now goes through Fullerton to San Bernardino on a different route.

Flash, There will be a station in San Dimas but doubt if it will be the old one.  The BNSF will still take cars to the brewry in Irwindale but I think there has been talk about building a separate right of way for them.  I don't think the new light rail track would support standard railroad equipment.  This line will parallel the Metrolink line starting in Pomona.  The Metrolink now runs over the former ATSF track between Claremont and San Bernardino.  Don't know how the light rail will fit in with all this.  That will be in the next phase which is a long way off and has not been funded yet.  Right now, they are working on the second phase which will run from Sierra Madre to Azusa, Ca., a distance of about 8 1/2 miles from where the line ends now.  So when this phase is complete in 2015, you can ride all the way from L.A. Union Station to Azusa and ending at Citrus College in Glendora.  Try to google on Gold Line Information which may shed more light on future development.
