Fox News/Fox & Friends Weekend has a 3 rail Christmas layout on their set as part of their Bass Pro Shops Christmas segment coming up this morning.

yup; caught it this AM. I suspect that it is a Christmas train made up especially for Bass Pro Shops. They had a couple of boys standing there watching the train jerkily round the oval, pretending to be fascinated by the whole thing. It was Lionel's small 0-27 steam engine, (not the 0-8-0) painted in Christmas colors pulling about four colorful freight cars. Still, any kind of reference of Christmas and Trains has to help out the hobby a bit. Hope Bass Pro sells a few trains this year. I've never been to one but is the store a good place to sell trains?

Lots of kids from rural areas (and some from urban areas who have one or more family members who love the outdoors) visit here, mostly to view/ select/ or request items related to hunting - fishing - camping - boating etc. If these kids had some contact with real trains or some prior experience w/ toy trains, maybe. However, kids interested in a new shotgun to hunt squirrels, a new fishing pole to catch bluegill with, or new items for camping or boating, don't seem to get too excited about a train set. I've tried with kids in my circle of family and friends, and the train set just can't compete with the outdoors.
It may be a tough sell.
