Freight Car Kadee Coupler Conversion Video

Got a notification E-mail (I subscribe to your channel). Just watched the video. Great work. I'm going to follow your lead and pre-stage a collection of supplies so I can convert cars more efficiently.

Laidoffsick's videos ought to be locked at the top of the intro to this section like the "Step by Step Photo: How to install Kadees on Atlas cars thread.  I think the videos better illustrate how easy it is to use Kadee couplers.  

 

I wonder if Kadee would consider becoming a Forum sponsor.

I agree; these videos are excellent!  Laidoffsick, I would love to see you make a video showing how you convert a diesel engine to a fixed pilot.

That is in the plans, but a little bit down the road. I want to do an Atlas & Lionel car, talk about some passenger cars, and then as the final video, a fixed pilot diesel conversion. I may even do a steam engine tender conversion, not sure on that one yet.

I'd really like to see you try your hand at converting a K-Line tank car with die-cast chassis to Kadees, and your method of lowering the car to get the coupler height right.  I've got two dozen of these cars that I've gotten advice that using Weaver trucks will lower the body quite well, but I haven't been able to actually try it yet and don't know if I will anytime soon.

I don't lower the cars, I normally dont have a reason to. I lower the couplers with spacers/shims. The hardest part of a diecast car is drilling through it. Must have sharp bits or hardened tip bits. Tanks cars are tough because of the walkways on the ends of the cars.

     This is a MTH die cast tank car with a Kadee. It did not require any lowering and I would be surprised if the KLine does. You will need some sharp bits and a tap to mount the coupler.
