Might have fried my ps2 board or a part of it, as there was a spark and a burnt smell.  Had just put in a new battery and was fooling around with the train trying to plug the tender cord into the loco when i heard the spark sound. The transformer was on and now I know to unplug it when hooking things up!  Who/where should I send it to in order to get it checked out and repaired if necessary. Any range of costs?   Suggestions are greatly appreciated...Thanks!!

Welcome to the "club" of hobbyists who have fried a MTH locomotive PS-2 circuit board. I have only one MTH locomotive (the other seven are Lionel products), so it is an "orphan" on my O-gauge layout. I bought it because it had the decor scheme (NASA) I wanted, but now it's like burnt toast. I considered a repair and upgrade to PS-3, but I learned that buying a NEW version of this diesel loco costs about the same as a repair/upgrade for my EXISTING loco.

Then I considered another alternative -- have that loco converted to TMCC with ERR parts; then I could run it on my layout with existing TMCC gear -- no need to buy additional MTH control gear to optimize the performance of PS-3 for the sake of one "orphan." I found a vendor who would do that make-over. The project would cost just a little more than a MTH repair or replacement. IMHO, well worth it for compatibility with my existing control technology, comfort with TMCC, and avoiding CSSS (Control System Stress Syndrome).

I realize some MTH hobbyists may decry his "solution" and make the case that MTH technology is better than "Big L."  Maybe so, maybe not -- but to each his own.
