I wanted to share some steam pictures of the South Devon Railway taken this week by my friend Mike in the UK. Wishing everyone a blessed New Year.

They really love their steam in the UK and seemingly have a better handle on restoring and running them.
Happy New Year Paul.

True, except they have an EXTREMELY difficult time obtain coal, since most, if not all, the coal mines in GB have been outlawed and closed. Last I read they were having to import coal from Germany.

I love the UK where they also still fly spitfires and hurricanes.
Got to ride one, but was surprised when tour bus dropped us for a stretch near a yard with standing inactive British steam, and as here, I keep reading of steam roads there l was unaware of. Is there a book that lists most of the current active British steam roads?

Fantastic, thank for sharing……Happy New Year!
I meant to comment further, on "carrying coals to Newcastle". Sounds like you need to; maybe a few lumps in your overhead bin will get a discount ticket on the Ffestiniog?.. movie theme: "as the moon slides behind a cloud, a shadowed skiff rowed by hunched dark figures, grates on the Channel's sand as figures leap out to dump bags of black lumps into an idling lorry, before figures, skiff, and lorry with lights off, are gone when moon shines again on the beach".
Paul - Thanks for posting my pics. Happy New Year to you and all at/on OGR! Hotwater, you are correct we no longer mine steam coal so all we use for steam engines is sadly imported - but at least we run them!!
Colarado H - sorry to hear your experience was not quite what you hoped for. We have lots of steam here as Paul well knows. When he visited pre Covid a group of us took him to the West Somerset Railway where I am a member and shareholder. He got the full works of a visit to the engine cab, a trip the full length of the line (longest preserved line in UK) and
a proper English pub lunch ! It was great to see my/our "USA Train Buddy" over here.
