This is what I enjoy about my hobby in O scale. Long live Paul Michael Smith.

The early 50’s, Northern California evening winter sun.

Warmly glistening off Espee 4-8-8-2 Cab Forward as it highballs a heavy manifest in O scale. My imagination stirs as seeing the Night Owl or better yet the Cascade Daylight led by pristine Alco PA may come into view after this typical freight in the early 50’s. No, Black Widow F units. I can only dream, this is a creation in miniature. But I sure had fun doing it.

Nice evening for a shoot.

The fun with the hobby that I enjoy photographing almost more than the building but I enjoy that as well.

Very nice.  Reminds me of that postcard they gave away at the 1980 California Railfest.

You do know that in the 1949/50 time frame a cab forward would be at one end of a 115 car freight, and an ABBA set of Black Widows with stainless grills would be at the other end?  As I recall, the steam would be in front, but I was only ten at the time and could be wrong about that.

The Sunset would roar through my back yard at midnight.  Frightening amount of noise - it never slowed down for our tiny town.  Probably PAs or E7s at the time.

Great memories Bob2, you are fortunate to have seen these machines in action.

Are the PA's enroute?   LOL

I'm with you Erik. Some years ago I built a simple 4' sceniked diorama of blue foam and laid 2 strips of ScaleTrax with ballast. I took a lot of shots mostly from the roof of my vehicles around our area here in western NC and a few were published in the two magazines that we enjoy. It was really fun looking for good set up spots and I learned quite a bit. Am still a true 'amateur' when it comes to photography and truly appreciate what you knowledgable guys (and ladies) create with the camera!
