Did anybody see "Amtrak's GG1 That Might Have Been" in the latest Classic Trains magazine?
I can't say that I like the actual (3D) rope glued on around the bottom of the body, but, from a distance it does look like it belongs. A decal would have been much better.
And, it looks like something may have come off the hot glue, or, is that just a runny nose?
Big Jim,
Thanks for pointing out that Classic Trains Amitral variation. I think the GG-1, in particular, lends itself to quite a few alternate designs. I like to stress that I am not a big fan of fantasy designs on classic and iconic locomotives and certainly not on a GG-1. I do, however, not consider a Holiday edition like this GG-1 to be a railroad fantasy design because it is not drawing on any other raioroad scheme nor is it attempting a redesign of a scheme actually used by a railroad that used a GG-1. The Holiday theme is strictly toylike and meant for the Holiday season. I would never run such a loco at any other time.
When Ginny and I host Holiday themed parties for friends, family, and neighbors, we run Holiday themed trains. This GG-1 will pull the candy train.
The hot glue melts are meant to be icicles. It does look like a tear, but they would be tears of joy that a GG-1 is running again.

So, John - a gray Lightning Stripe re-paint would not do either, I take it? Don't hold back.
Let it out.
And I thought that the Daylight Cab-forward guys were torqued up.
Christmas I could take but lightning stripe on the pride of the Pennsy is blastfemus.
