2353A9DF-4F83-4435-AFE8-91217528D400I just got my Super Dome in yesterday and I’m blown away by how beautiful it is. I don’t think I could have asked for anything better. This car was my second GGD car and it’s made me even more excited for the Amfleets I have on order. Well done Scott and team, you guys did an amazing job.

Hopefully everybody else gets their cars soon so they can be showcased here. If the Super Dome is this good, oh boy... can’t wait to see what the rest of the train looks like!

Thanks guys! Unfortunately I don’t have the rest of the set on order. Doesn’t fit what I model, (modern day Amtrak and private railcars) and more importantly, I can’t afford full sets like that yet. I do however have 3 Amfleets, a Budd Strata-Dome, and a Viewliner II Baggage on order.

Clip was trimmed from a ~6 1/2 min video, which is why it starts where it does.

Nice!  But I wonder about those gray trucks in the UP colors.  I thought that by the time the Milwaukee cars were repainted, UP had already switched to silver trucks on the passenger cars.  I know that the Milwaukee electrics had gray trucks in the UP colors but I thought that all of the diesels and passenger cars had silver trucks.

Gray Silver I'm sure Scott got it right or we'll have to send them back for repainting.

My Milw Rd are gray.

Well, if someone would post a color photo of a real MR passenger car with gray trucks (and not just dirty silver), I would believe it is correct.  Barring that happening, I think they should be silver.

Not sure if these show it.

The first photo is from 1960, and the passenger car trucks look to be dirty silver.  The second photo is from 1971, and the trucks do look like they might be gray, so that is interesting.  But the Olympian Hiawatha was discontinued in 1961 and the Olympian Hi super domes were sold to CN in 1962.

It seems that UP switched from gray to silver trucks on passenger cars in 1958, which is right after MR switched to UP colors, with the MR repaint to yellow occurring throughout 1957.  Maybe UP liked the MR silver trucks look in 1957 and made the decision to switch the trucks on their own cars from gray to silver in 1958?

Anyway, I am with Erik in that I think that the MR Olympian Hi trucks were silver from the first repaint to UP yellow.

I doubt that the Milwaukee Road would paint the trucks gray on that Super Dome just prior to selling it if all their other passenger cars had silver trucks years ago. The passenger car to the right of it has silver trucks and the difference between those and the gray truck on the dome is very apparent.

This guy says it was sold to Amtrak in 1972: https://www.flickr.com/photos/...ts/72157627346300445 Fluted about 1993?

"Aluminum Paint on Passenger Car Trucks"

https://utahrails.net/pass/pass-paint.php

If this information is correct and UP was using Gray trucks into 1958/1959 time period wouldn't the Milwaukee would have painted their cars with gray trucks also to match the UP equipment if they joined the pool back in 1955?

The Olympian Hi cars were not part of the UP pool.  The MR did not repaint their whole fleet until 1957, and probably was not finished by the time the UP made the decision to switch to silver ("aluminum") trucks in 1958.  I am not sure why GGD went with gray.  The logical choice would be silver.  Maybe if GGD does another run of these cars they can go with silver.

Anyone know how easy it is to paint sideframes?  Easiest is to remove truck, insert paper in between sideframe and wheels, and hit with a rattlecan.  Less time than to post about it.

I am a Skytop freak.  Glad I captured some prototype photos.  Still hoping somebody does a casting for that back end.  I may try it in built-upbrass someday.
