Gloss Medium?

What would I ask for in the hardware store?

Ask for directions to the nearest art/craft store like Hobby Lobby or Michael's Crafts. 

Once in one of those stores, they will show you to the gloss medium.

Not hardware store; craft or art supply store.  Gloss medium, gloss gel, matte medium.  In with the Acrylic artist paints.  Fun stuff to use.

I've used gloss medium to make a river on my French layout under construction.

With gloss medium, it's possible to make waves to represent the moving water. I applied it with the help of a brush. The photos don't show well, sorry. But it gives you an idea...

that's a very realistic scene. Marcél should have no problems catching his dinner!

Marcel - that's a great looking stream.  I'd appreciate your telling us about the process you used to model it.  Was gloss medium the base coat or did you apply it on top of something else.
