How many of you have had Legacy and went back to TMCC?  I am considering selling my legacy 990 and other items to help fund a small business.

Besides the quilling whistle, the brake control, what other features will I really miss?  Easy "lashups"?  I think this will only be temporary and after this business gets up and running I will be able to repurchase a new Legacy system.

I thought about it until I used TMCC only on a couple of shows and friend's layouts, I found myself missing the feel of the Legacy remote and all of the extras. I really prefer the 200 speed steps and absolute speed control on the Legacy that has improved even the older TMCC/Odyssey locomotives. Final thought is I do not think you would be able to get out of it what you put in it and would likely paying the cost of entry twice.

Just my thoughts....

I had the controller and base for something like a year and half before getting a Legacy engine.  The difference in the way the TMCC equipment ran was like night and day.  The one Odyssey engine actually worked properly in command mode and all of the other trains were much more responsive with TMCC mode than they were with the CAB-1.

I have kept my Legacy 990 system stored under the benchwork since buying it new. However nowadays, given my age and circumstances I will not be acquiring any additional engines, Legacy equipped or otherwise.

But based on suggestions by Chuck and other Forumites, I understand that the 990 system will offer better control of the features of the TMCC engines running on my small 9x16 layout.

You can have my Legacy and DCS for that matter when you pry them from my cold dead hands.

I'll never go back even if my base/Cab2 goes down.  I bought a backup.  Can't go back.  Just cant do it.

While testing I cleared a Legacy engine out of the remote and ran it in TMCC mode.  Holy crap that was a rough 30 seconds until it loaded back in as Legacy.

The responsiveness and precision of the Legacy remote compared to the CAB-1 is tremendous. When using the cab-1, I never knew if a command was actually being delivered and accidentally changing the speed with the free-spinning red knob was quite common.

Also, my reception with the Legacy remote is MUCH better than my TMCC set-up.

From someone who has had TMCC/DCS from their humble beginings, all it takes to fully appreciate Legacy is try running multiple Legacy engines in a lash-up.   To say the level of precise control it offers is amazing would be an understatement.

For me, Legacy and the great RS-5 sounds has raised the level of enjoyment to the point, these days I don't run much else.

The 200 speed steps for Legacy verses the 32 for TMCC makes a significant difference in control of train speed especially when running multiple trains per loop.  Also I have found that my TMCC engines run better under Legacy as well.  The only disadvantage I have found is if you have multiple levels the Legacy system is more sensitive to "ground" issues than TMCC.

I have to agree on keeping your Legacy. The first time that I used the Legacy system I fell in love with it in just a very short time. And that was a few years ago and I have not used it since then. But it does beat the Cab-1 hands down.

While I watched the mad frenzy for the Legacy on the bay this past Christmas. I came across one back in November on the bay so I picked up my 2nd #990 that wound up to being a version 1.0 for $225. So I sent it off to Lionel and they took good care of it and I had it back in a couple of weeks and now I have another 1.53.

Yes I was tempted to put it back on the bay but I decided to keep it instead and now both of my daughters will be able to have their own.

I say keep your 990 and go to a bank for a loan.

This will be a very small business.   Not something I will be making a living on.  Just something to help support my RR and photography hobbies.
