Hello everyone,
Has anyone seen the gold PE steam locomotive in person? I am wondering if it will be painted a gold color, or actual shiny gold plated, like the Hudson from 2000.

It is just a catalog image for now. I have been informed that it will be plated. The popularity of this item is evidenced by the fact that Lionel changed it's original quota from 200 to now BTO. I seriously doubt that you will see a production sample for this one.
The gold PE passenger cars make this engine even more appealing. I guess that this set is for the ultimate PE fan.
I'm interested either way. Flat gold paint or Shiny gold plate both appeal to me. I think this is going to be a great set and it will be a long time, if ever, before Lionel makes another run of the Gold PE. Strike while the iron is hot! I've already placed my order.

Good Move!!!!
It would make sense to produce the other cars now. Customers are torn about ordering several coaches.
Thanks
Pat
Engine is plated and cars are painted.
It would make sense that additional gold cars will follow. Lionel will have a pretty good feel for volume based upon the number of engines ordered. Not to say that engine sales will translate 100% into the same demand for the cars, but is should produce a good indication for the demand for these cars.
Playing it safe, it also makes sense to order additional gold coaches.

That repeaks my interest, I hope they have a sample at York
Gold paint wouldn't be the same

One would think that's the case, but then again... why would the catalog say...
Add an Observation Car and as many Coaches as you'd like behind your gold-edition The Polar Express Berkshire.
Just doesn't instill much confidence either way. Given that Lionel is re-issuing ALL the regular PE cars, you'd think they'd at least provide some direction for the gold train. I guess this will be an obvious (and often asked) question for Lionel reps at York next week.

That's my plan, David.
Gents - please keep us posted. Sadly won't be able to make it to York from IL. We have the loco, 2 coach cars and an observation car on order. I'd be interested in other gold cars as well. Thanks for the info!
Daryl
We have confirmed the Polar Gold Engines will be plated and not painted. I hope this clears up some confusion with this engine. Lionel has also stated the cars will be painted. I also would like to wish you all a HAPPY EASTER.
Thanks

Pat:
Can you enlighten us as to whether Lionel will produce additional gold cars beyond what is in the current catalog, and if not, can you get us an answer to this question?
Happy Easter to you and your family as well.
