Wondering if 3rd Rail/Golden Gate Depot has ever done any aluminum or brass passenger cars in HO?

GGD has not done Aluminum or Brass cars in HO. There was some discussion that the Viewliners would be done in Aluminum, but they are now being offered in ABS plastic. Honestly, plastic renders detail much better than aluminum anyway. The reason to do cars in aluminum in this day and age has to do with the number of cars to be produced and the required tooling investment. Aluminum cars are much cheaper on the tooling side, but more expensive due to lower number being produced and the labor required to assemble them. The same holds true for brass which requires no tooling, but a lot of labor to produce the cars. It makes sense when the numbers are low, but not as much as when the orders are high enough to mass produce them in plastic.
Great info. I was thinking of possibly dabbling in HO. Not a Rivet counter per-se, but was thinking if I could find something detailed say in a Super Chief set of cars for example.
