Any interest for the city of Miami or city of New Orleans? Also the Panama limited. The city of Miami was only 1 diesel and 6 passenger cars.

Count me in for the whole set.
I already have the E6, Panama Limited, I just need the cars. As much as I like the original City of Miami, I think from a sales standpoint, the City of New Orleans and Panama Limited should be more popular.

I’m a little surprised this new Illinois Central thread has seen so little response. One Just can’t predict what will catch …….BUT I think the City of New Orleans and Panama Ltd. could be a great next GGD offering to put in the Q. (Though the Q is quite long now !!! 😑🤭) That It runs thru Many states and hits large metro areas all should contribute to a buying “base” to make it possible. And it should appealing to an underrepresented geographic area for model trains.
A key point here is that both “City…” and “Panama” could be offered At The Same Time !!! “City” is a Daytime all coach consist and “Panama” is a night all Pullman consist. Offer the 2 different consists like Scott IS DOING with the Texas Eagle for MP and T&P (of course with extra cars) or a four car base set of common to each consist with a choose your four car add on set - coaches or sleepers or even a 50-50 coach-sleeper mix set (possibly a later consist).
I haven’t researched details but I think this could be another winner for Scott and bring a lot of smiles to Illinois Central modelers that Crave a quality product !!!!
Cheers !!!!
No.
I'd be in for a Panama Limited and at least 2 City of Nola + extras.
It was brought up a couple of years ago with Scott when the first run of E6s was offered. It was not listed because there was so little interest. The other city trains have likewise received little interest.
Same goes for any of the Union Pacific city trains. The locos got interest but not the trains. Or, I should say in that case there are so many variations not any one of them got much interest.
Same also goes for the CBQ City of Denver or Twin Cities Zephyrs. Years ago when Atlas was made the CZ they said there was no interest in any other trains with the same or similar cars.

Thanks Rdunnii for some info. Maybe it’s still the same. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Id love to see a “City” or “Panama”. I’m in St. Louis and the IC had a link into these two trains.
If we don’t see more interest in this thread, I’ll just have to agree - no interest out there. 😑
And I’ll be disappointed. ☹️
Interested yes, but even used GGD is outside what I am willing to spend. Beautiful offerings. I am happy with my 3rd Rail M10000. There have been several IC passenger sets and engines that got pretty decent bids at the last couple of auctions, so there is a demand. How much and at what price is another matter.
Windycitysaint. Looks like you have Lots of needed references to be “Mr. Deep Research” to spearhead a push for an IC consist / offering. I’ll encourage you to take up the banner - it will need a “champion”. I like the “Miami” but I like the N.O. and Panama better. Just my preference. I have the MTH “City of Miami” set - early paint E6 and five cars. It’s nice but I now aspire for another paint scheme - preferably the more simple, more familiar chocolate/orange.
Just for comparisons, I’ll post 3 IC paint schemes. Top “Miami” is MTH. E6 “Panama” 3rd Rail, E9 3rd Rail.
What’s preferred ??? I’d like to see a consist to match the bottom E9.

They all look good to me. IC is a hole in my train collection.
I’m in for any IC engine and or car sets from GGD and 3rd Rail!
All
Comments here are great - continue posting ……….BUT …….. if anyone Really would like to see this go somewhere - Email Scott and let him know directly.
If enough people start posting here And email him, he Will notice.
I won’t happen if you don’t try.
Cheers !!! 😬
I’d be in for any IC GGD passenger train! My first preference would be the City of New Orleans.
I remember hearing the same ho hum about not enough interest in the MP Eagle for years and yet after it was formally announced on the website, the orders showed on up.
Likewise, I find it very hard to imagine that any UP named passenger train wouldn’t get enough reservations! I’d get one; city of anything, doesn’t matter to me. It is one of the most popular railroads to model and we have never had an accurate UP passenger train in 3rail O. I’d say stop worrying about which one to announce and just pick one. Sure, some will complain that it is not what they wanted but certainly there will also be many who will be happy to have a UP offering at all. Again, Eagle is the case study for this. Go back and look at the forum for the old posts about the Eagle and how it could never happen yet here it is.
If we let the negative nay sayers run the show, then someday we will have missed out on some pretty neat stuff that could have been done.
3rd Rail's got a Panama Limited E6 up for reservations now. The City of Miami is a striking scheme, and its fixed consist might help it get orders. I know the MTH version goes for high prices when it comes up for resale. But if we're going to ask a custom manufacturer to make a custom run for us, it might as well be the one IC train that's never been done justice in O-scale before: the Green Diamond. That'd be an insta-reserve for me.
Please email golden gate depot if you are seriously interested.

I’d love to see the giant green worm - the articulated “Green Diamond” done. However I don’t think it would have a big draw. It ran only between Chicago and St. Louis. Though 2 large cities, I don’t think there would be sufficient interest-reservations to fly. I believe it’s interest has a narrow regional appeal. IMHO !!!!
I would be in for a set of the Green Diamond. I love those early turret style diesels, especially the UP M10003 - M10006. The entire matching passenger cars also are very unique with their riveted sides.

If GGD would do the Panama Limited with faux-neon LED signs on the sides of the observation car I probably couldn't resist, especially as the matching locos are available. If it were a fantasy scheme it would be cheesy but because it was real and would be done in scale, it's too cool.

I agree. Do you think they could make a lighted sign on the sides of the cars?
I bet they could, and I bet would be very visually striking (just like it probably was in real life).

It’s looks like they do not sell an AA unit. I guess I could buy two for $1500. I think I would be better to buy the lionel legacy AA set.
I'm definitely in! I don't know of any scale IC passenger cars currently or previously available in O scale. I have most of the MTH IC sets and the 1980s Lionel set, but a GGD version would be really nice. Scale IC heavyweights are also on the wish list.

Can you email Scott and advise him if your interests?

True, but how many prototype PRR S-2s were made? I think part of the issue for lack of demand is there was no Pre/Post-War model of the Green Diamond to pull the nostalgia strings when more modern remakes were proposed. I know there was an AF version, but that wasn't the same league as Lionel's M-10000. The Green Diamond lasted in service longer than the M-10000, but it got the free(ish) publicity of a Lionel model, and the childhood memories that followed. At this point, if someone released a City of Denver set and a Green Diamond set using the same tooling, I'd buy it. It's probably the best we'll ever get.
Overland made an HO Green Diamond. There was also a tinplate O Gauge version, but I don't recall the maker. Perhaps Pride Lines?

Did the Green Diamond ever run to/through New Orleans in the early 1950s? I remember when I was real little my Dad talking about "the Green Beetle" and seems I have a vague memory of seeing it one time. I would have been 5 - 7 years old at the time.
Might be able to do the neon sign with side lit fiber optics. Bend radius might be a challenge. That would be something to see.
I will send an email also. Just redid my layout to have 072 so have not taken thought about GGD previously due to layout limitations. Grandfather worked in passenger service and Uncle downtown Chicago for IC. Got back into the hobby and focused on getting caught up on IC as much as I could. Seen the GGD cars on a buddy’s layout and always impressed.

Might be a challenge just due to the small size. My thought is a thin piece of clear acrylic engraved with the logo and then lit up with the proper color LED.
I put a reservation down for a 3rd Rail SD40-2 in IC "Death Star" scheme, and it was promptly cancelled, I assume not enough pre-orders. Wish you all luck, but I'm not holding my breath. Can't blame Scott, its a business, I don't work for free (so far).
You sure you are not running afoul of some copyright problems?
Anyone send emails to Scott?
