You do see the O scale set for sale on the bay every so often.....~$3500 +/- 1K

 

I was given to understand that while they look great that there was some inaccuracies and that they were also very delicate models. 

 

Always wondered is anyone every actually ran them..........or just put them in the nice box in the closet on a shelf.

Wow. In either scale, that's impressive.

I'd think when the 150th anniversary of the golden spike ceremony at Promontory summit gets closer as 2019 approaches, the value of such a set might increase for a while.

I've been to the spot a couple of years ago, and lucked up seeing the replica locomotives there in steam. While it's in the total middle of nowhere now, it's one of those places I think every American (and for sure every train buff) should see once in their life.
