I sent in my new atlas rsd 4-5 and got it back from atlas and the non running problem was fixed.  My one question is that a note with it says to use the cab 1 mode.  For some reason every feature except move works in tmcc mode and every feature including move works in cab one.  The reason explained to me was you can;t do the feature set in tmcc mode when programing the engine for its feature such as #8 for diesel and without that put in after a change in cab number causes the engine to not move.

You need to have the handheld in cab 1 to do the aux code then you can go back to tmcc.  I am spoiled with the modules that do all this for you with the legacy system.

It is now using the old lionel tmcc system with no ta or err electronics in it.  the newer atlas has err in it.

My problem was I was trying to program in the tmcc mode of the legacy and when I pushed aux1 to press #8 to let it know it was a diesel it did not work.  I put the legacy in cab one mode and a push of aux 1 and 8 blew the whistle and then take loco off track put switch back in run, change legacy to tmcc mode and works fine.  push aux 1 in tmcc mode puts it into something else as the numbers disappear and it does not know it is a diesel so it does everything fine but will not move,

There return rate with ta was around 60%.  Gary who used to work for 3rd rail told me their return rate on ta stuff was just as high as atlas.  I had two brass engines from weaver both with ta electronics and both had to be sent back.  Gary of weaver was not surprised that there was a problem.  I never got an engine with ta eob that did not have to go back.  Yes, Hot water I know you never got a defective one but then your engines where tested before leaving the dealership for defects.

It is suprising what you learn when you talk to someone who no longer works for a company will tell you.

As I tried to repeat in two posts the system has to get its aux code of 8 in the cab 1 mode or the engine does not know what it is and will not move.  If you try to give the aux 1 code in tmcc when you press aux1 the screen changes and you no longer have numbers to press.  Once programed in cab 1 mode then go back to tmcc mode and it works fine.  I can;t exlain it any clearer than that.

Ironlake, I can assure you that atlas' repair rate was certainly not 60%! more like 3% this having been confirmed to me by the late Jim Weaver. TAS and Atlas had a very successful back "back in the day" with EOB. If you are going to start rumors you should compile the facts beforehand. Try inquiring with Billy Serratelli, the actual repairman at Atlas O! Thank you, Mike

I was refering to weaver at that point as a gary does not work for atlas but for weaver.  I asked gary (of weaver) if I purchased a new milwaukee hudson would it arrive 100% working and his answer was maybe but that I could send it in for fixing.  They sent me a ups prepaid label and it was fixed at no cost to me.

I would guess that atlas had the same TA problem as my trainman rsd 4-5 has 100% lionel tmcc and no engineer on board the problem for TA.  Now atlas has err as does weaver and 3rd rail.
