Hello, a couple months ago, Lionel repaired my legacy mikado's smoke unit after it shutdown with the 3 cab light blinks. All was good until the other day, I started it up, and yet again, 3 cab light blinks with no smoke. I added a few drops of fluid, and it actually tried to work for about one minute, then it stopped working altogether. I'm not sure why it shutdown again because Lionel said they installed a new fan unit. Any ideas of what the problem could be?

Matt,

Before you do anything, take some compressed air and shoot it down the stack until you hear the fan motor spin. If you have a compressor set it to 20 PSI, if you don't have any compressed air or a compressor take the engine and shake it around a bit like your shaking a rattle can. don't put anymore smoke fluid in, do a reset and it should be fine.

Please try this first

Matt,

Let me know if it works.

The reason why most of the time you get 3 blinks is , when the fan motor stops spinning

it can land on a so called dead spot. Which will make the engine go into a 3 blink mode, by simply moving the fan motor slightly it will take it off the dead spot and will go into normal operation.

Another way to clear smoke chamber and fan motor of excess fluid is the squeeze bottle from hair dye!

Your mikado sounds like my S-3 same issue.
my cure I first add 10-20 drops smoke fluid let sit for 5 minutes then I startup the S-3 so far no more 3 blink issues and I replaced original fan motor with an mth unit same thing so in my case I beleive I flooded fan area.

Give this a try it might stop your issue.

But do as other poster says reset engine but also go one step further turn smoke switch to off and run for 30 minutes then stop engine and turn smoke switch to run all should be good.
