A few days ago, a neighbor perused the local library book sale. He picked up an almost new copy of "The Trains We Rode", almost new for a dollar. He handed it to me and said, "Merry Christmas" Mentioning that he thought it was probably not worth the bother, without saying so I agreed .... however, I graciously accepted.

Wow! What a great book almost a thousand pages. Chapters on most major American railroads, probably 2500 photos or illustrations with concise paragraphs after each. I will have many hours on the couch with a whisky at hand to enjoy this read.

Out of curiosity I looked it up on Amazon. $4.00.  This would make a fabulous stocking stuffer.

I am with you guys on this book.  I have been buying a lot of train books lately for cheap at the "library's friend" store.  2 bucks for hardcovers 1 for soft covers.  Everything cost more in NY.  LOL  Beebe did a lot of the classic train photo books in the transition era, they are all great and readily available.
