Nice cover. I think I have four versions on my iPad, including one by Steve Goodman. My favorite is one that's from an Arlo Guthrie/Pete Seeger concert album. A piano provides the base line.
The other two versions are Judy Collins (Goodman provided backup) and Willie Nelson's. I like the Johnny Cash and John Denver versions. Funny how the song takes on a different "flavor" from each of the artists.
City of New Orleans and Canadian Railroad Trilogy are my two favorite rail road song. One about how men built a country by building a railroad, the other an homage to the closing down of a way of life and means of transportation in another.
