There is a Greenberg show in Chantilly, VA this weekend.  It has been years since I have been to a Greenberg show; are they worth a 2 hour drive (one way) these days?  I'm not so much interested in buying anything (a Lionel 18" PRR HW pullman with interior would be nice), but would be looking for layout ideas.  Thanks

Just my opinion, but the short answer to your question is "no".  I would not drive for 4 hours (round trip) to attend a show.

I used to attend the Wilmington, Mass. show every year without fail.  Based on my experience with that particular venue, there were only a handful of O-gauge layouts present.  Of course, each location is different and the Chantilly location may feature more layouts than Wilmington does.

As far as the train items for sale, I never saw anything at the shows that couldn't be purchased in a hobby shop or over the internet- and usually for less.

I stopped by the Greenberg Show a little while ago and it wasn't worth the walk from the car to the building let alone a 2 hour drive. The hall was only a little over half full and mostly toys and HO. The Trackers had a nice display though. The Greenberg Shows are good for families with small kids. Want to know why York bans strollers, go to a Greenberg Show lol!

Pretty funny, Paul.  I was at a show a few weeks ago and there were so many strollers I got bumped into 3 times just standing still.  I actually thought to myself "wow, I really appreciate the fact there are none at York".   Was the first time a thought like that actually came to me.

I also went Saturday to the Greenberg Chantilly show. Not the largest show but a good one with a good mix of books, layout building stuff, all guages of trains, railroadianna and toys. Lots of stuff for the kids, even the little ones. Very nice layouts, train races and a ride where the kids got pull themselves around a track. A great thing for parents and grandparents to do with their kids.

Got a couple of K-line items I had been after for several years and at very fair prices. I always like to support these shows because it introduces the public to the hobby, especially young people which the hobby really needs. Also, I very often find things I never expected to find -- like yesterday. You never know what will show up. If you do not support the shows they will go away.

I was there all weekend with the trackers. There were some deals, assuming you found something you wanted. A lot of people walking out with bags and carrying around items. Some tables were priced to move, and it was apparent as the height of some displays kept dropping over the course of the weekend, some dealers probably took everything home. Even saw one place that had everything marked over MSRP, I had to scratch my head at that. The layouts were busy all weekend.
