This weekend (July 13-14) is the Summer Greenberg show at Monroeville, PA (just East of Pittsburgh). The Pittsburgh Independent Hi-Railers are set up and ready to run. If you are coming to the show, be sure to stop by and say "hi."

I finally made it to this show. The last time I was there was in the summer of 1984 or 1985. Had a wonderful time. Didn't buy any trains. I did buy a pair of split ring pliers. Most of my fishing lures have spilt rings on them. Since every now then, I will get one of my lures in my pant leg or shirt. Then I have to cut the hook. These pliers will help me replace those hooks. Saw the American Flyer dealer from Conn. who always has a ton of choice Flyer. A lot of it is brand new in the original boxes. He has signs on all of it, reading please do not touch. I have seen this gentleman three times. Once on my last trip to York, once at a train show in Altoona and today. It just amazes me on how much brand new original American Flyer he has. And none of it is the common stuff. Enjoyed seeing and visiting we a lot of our old customers and friends. I also enjoyed the variety of operating layouts. On the way home I stopped at Dean's Diner in Blairsville and got two pieces of coconut cream pie for Peggy and myself.
It was good seeing you again, Jim.

I stopped by the Pittsburgh Hi-Railer twice during the show on Saturday. I talked with Andy, Patrick and others. Excellent show. There were clubs with N, HO, S, and O layouts. All were good and done by a nice bunch of guys. If you like a parade of impressive trains and motive power, the Hi-Railers was the place to be. It is well worth going today if you can. Thanks to the Hi-railers and all clubs and vendors.
Thank you Andy. It's always nice to see you fellows and your layout. Maybe, I will come again next summer.
Good show..I got a couple of HO locos I'd wanted for awhile, got a 6464 boxcar floor with bar-end trucks from Bernie for $5, and scooped some repro Larue Schempp toilet paper. Also got to check out the new Link N&W coffee table book....A-OK !
Thanks to Andy Hummel for starting this post....I was playing on my Iphone while my wife was driving down the PA turnpike on Saturday morning and saw that we would be close to this show...we were making the 360 mile trip to Pittsburgh to see the ballgame on Saturday night at PNC Park.
She dropped me off at the show and she went the Monroeville Mall. I did great !!!
I picked up a older "well used" but not abused MTH Railking EL RS-3 for 100.00.
The dealer had 2 of them !
and a brand new MTH Railking NS SD-70 for 200.00.
After breakfast on the way home today she dropped me off again and she went to Sears.(my hand stamp just barely visible)I went back and bought the other EL RS-3 !!! There both on my layout now MUed together and run great !
Im glad I saw this post Thanks again it was a great show for me !
Pretty light day today. My dad and I took my two year old son, 9 year old nephew and 4 year old niece...we had our hands full. lol
I did pick up a Lionel Thomas set for $100 NIB. Not too bad a set for the little guy, but the "whistle" is a horn? Wha..how...ah whatever. lol
I was wondering around the show for a while on Saturday, saw a lot of impressive layouts, but none grabbed my attention like the Pittsburgh Independent Hi-Railers.
Unfortunately I couldn't spend much time at any one place, as my better half, despite saying she wanted to go, was trying to drag me around thinking we could leave after I glanced at everything on her brisk walk.
ajrieck- Glad you likes our layout The Pittsburgh Independent Hi-Railer really injoy doing shows. Our next set up is at Lionel in Canfield ,Ohio on Aug 17th.
Check out our Facebook Page. Lots of pictures from several shows.
Hey Walt ....just got home from work and checked ...one of the locos has a BCR in it the one that is renamed "Pittsburgh"....The other one("Kennywood") loaded into the remote but would not respond after a power down...I threw a 3 buck Harbor Freight 8.4 volt NiCad in it and it is perfect now ! Also the locos are marked "new" and "original" on the bottom of them as are the corresponding boxes.
Chances are they were yours....
Here's a video of them running......
What a small world. Hey Bob I'll give you 100 each for them
Yunz guys can have my 6464 boxcar floor when yunz pry it out of my cold, dead fingers.....eh !.....(Bernie's finest, made in U.S.A.)
Glad to see Jimmy hanging around the trains
