Hello, I am something of a "rare breed": a modern Lionel collector in the UK....not many of us around here in England!! The group is most informative and helpful so I am so pleased to have been allowed to join yesterday. Refreshingly, everyone who posts is so polite and friendly which is definitey good. Thanks to all who left posts which, unbeknown to them, have helped me no end. Regards to all!!! Charles

Welcome Charles. This is a good and helpful group thanks to the willing members and good moderation.
Where in the UK? My wife was born and raised in Southampton and enjoys her infrequent visits "home".
Welcome, Charles!
And, yes ... so many nice, helpful people on this forum ... of all ages and backgrounds.

Welcome aboard. I am also on a UK forum called RMweb; I find the posts there quite interesting, especially in the sub-forum "Wheeltappers".
Welcome Charles!
Welcome Charles, and please remember, except for the C&NW, we drive on the right!!!
Welcome aboard!
Welcome Charles,
I can say that you will enjoy your time here and you will come away with a great deal of knowledge. The folks on this site are the best - hands down.
Looking forward to seeing your posts.
Welcome Charles! My great grandfather Charles Wiltshire was brought to the US with his parents at the age of 8. He was a dispatcher on the Frisco later in life, I believe. Devizes is I believe where the family farm was located back in 1897.
Enjoy the forum!
Wow, 3 rail O is the oddball scale here, so you must be really be out of place using modern 3r across the Atlantic. Welcome!
Welcome! Glad to have some people from across the pond! I find the railroads of the UK very fascinating.
Welcome aboard! A wealth of shared knowledge here.
Hello everyone,
Thanks for your warm welcomes....much appreciated!!
Regards
Charles

Hi
Devizes is not far away. Curious his last name was "Wiltshire" as thats also the name of the county! Great flight of 27 canal locks there on the Kennet & Avon canal. Regards Charles

Not half as brilliant as your great american railroads. Here in the UK the rot set in when Dr Beeching closed so many in the 1960's!!! Regards Charles

Hi there,
Ok, yes I know Southampton quite well. Did you meet in the UK. My wife is from the US and spent 24 years in the US Air Force serving all over the world. Regards Charles
Welcome Charles.......my son, Charles, and I visited England in September 2019 and had the occasion to take the train to York from London and visit your wonderful railroad museum.
Peter
WELCOME!!! It's about time you joined Charles! We've been waiting for you!
You certainly seem to have gotten the hang of things around here as you posted to the 'correct' forum right out of the gate... which makes the moderators extremely happy.

Yes its quite good. over hear one can travel by steam on many mainline excursions, its a wonder they have'nt put a stop to it. My ambition is to come by sea to NY as I have done before and then go back to the early 1950's and have a lounge car on a Streamliner to the west coast, preferably hauled by 4014 Big Boy via Cheyenne and Sherman Hill......those days must have been superb. Why not bring it back? I am sure there would be a market for that sort of thing. I have been on the Orient Express London to Venice. Popular? One has to book the previous year!! Regaards Charles

Obviously, I didn't shoot this... but, here she is Charles; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMp3E6sQpyg

Welcome to the forum Charles!
There is a treasure-trove of knowledge and a lot of folks are always willing to help/give advice on a myriad of topics.
As an modern Lionel collector in England, do you you have any favorite American railroads and/or eras of railroading that you prefer to model?
Regards,
Bryce

Hi Dennis,
You lucky guy!! How did you arrange that? I might come over with Susan in 2022; she spends a couple of months on a ranch in the Powder River north of Cheyenne each year.

Hello From Northern Wisconsn
HEARTY Welcome!!!
Welcome aboard, Charles! We are happy to see our forum participation grow on an international basis, and I hope you will continue to share information from "across the pond," as we tend to say here.
Hi Charles, another Brit here. I live in Westbury where the Bristol to Southampton line crosses the Great Western London to Exeter route I presume you've found the UK Lionel Collectors Club, hopefully restarting their May annual shows. I'm a 2-railer and 10 minutes with a good choice of Lionel scale rolling stock, 2-rail wheels and KDs pays off. There's a 2- and 3-rail show at Winchester on October 23rd: www.winchesterogaugemeet.co.uk
Dan, as you know Britain's a small place and would fit in Dallas-Fort Worth airport. Anyway I'm just 13 miles from Devizes and the Caen Hill canal lock flight Charles mentioned.
Peter, if you're in London with a day to kill go down to the Bluebell Railway. I took the Sebastians (Des Plaines Hobbies) there many years ago and Ron rated it up there with the York Museum.
Jason
Welcome!
As you've already stated, the Forum is THE place to go to learn new tricks and solve old problems. If there isn't a thread that tackles your issue, there are many of our icons who are happy to help you. This truly is a "brotherhood" ("sisters" included)!
Glad to have you aboard Charles. We have two British fellows in the local HO club in southern Indiana. One fellow goes ( or did go) back about 3 or 4 times a year. He has an apartment he rents there and can pop in anytime he wants. His son lives in the UK.. Now the exact location of "there" I cannot remember. I'll have to check. The other fellow started out operating a canal boat in the UK. He has some stories. He models in N and really has the scenery done up well for the part of the UK where he grew up. Very glad you are here. Train ON!

Welcome to the forum @CHARLES D!
I am a huge tinplate fan, and while I love my mth and lionel, I am fascinated by some of the pieces by Ace and Darstaed. Now if they would only remember that center rail is meant for ac power, they would be even more attractive.
What type of equipment do you operate?
Hi Charles,
Congratulations on joining us. Cheerio!
