Just a thought here, I think Item Location, Box Location and maybe Storage Location are missing, unless they were left out intentionally? Would be nice fields to have, I think.

I am hoping that notes fields can be used to add user specific information.
If all goes well there will be a version that allows the user to create their own attributes to associate with an inventory item.

Ahh Reporting - That can be well 'challenging' First some user will consider a report simply an extract / export of specific fields using filters that will export to Excel, Text or CSV that is relatively easy to do. Others will want prettier reports with specific layouts. I will probably get the input from the users and create some nice looking canned reports.

I will add those today and then get to coding.

Thanks.

One more thought while reading other posts above, I think the poster that suggested the Manufacture Date or Date Made may have a good idea. As you know, some of our train items may not actually be made or shipped until well over a year or even more after the catalog is issued. Some items have taken several years to finally be made.

Good question. My day job keeps me bust 10-12 hrs a day so I only get 2-4 hours at night to work. (When I reply during the day usually it is my lunch hour or a break)

My sprint calculation is about 75 hours, that includes DB objects, UI,  simple CRUD functionality and some data validation. This would be only for the basic data which is 50 data elements. For this type of project where I have an active base of testers and interested parties I will usually knock out a good portion of the UI for review. Essentially a wireframe, but since this is not a contract I will just use my dev tools and knock out a non-functioning web page. That could take 2-6 hours depending how much effort I want to put into prewiring the client side code (validation)  If time permits I could have the UI for ready for screen shots by Sat  or Sun

Nice idea.  Here's another vote for refining the date/era fields.  On my inventory sheets I separate the model detail from the prototype detail. Thus, I include year of manufacture of the model, year range during which the prototype was built, and years that it was in service. That might be overkill for some but it's what I use for assembling a consist and for seeing what I'm missing with regard to future purchases.

How about a field for number of rivets??  Oh, no, just kidding! :-). My time is as limited as my collection but I have extensive software testing and prior UI design skills if you find you still need it.

Guys, I have been asked to move this conversation off of the OGR Forum in order to conform with the Forum Rules (or until I can become a sponsor).  I will send out an email to the 'Beta Testers' later today. This will slow down the process of gathering your requirements, which for now is okay as you have given me plenty of work to do!

For now if you need to contact me please use john.gardberg@centerrail.com replies will come from my Comcast account.

Jim this will be my last reply since I have to move the conversation somewhere else.

We can handle multiple collections per user.. okay we will be able to handle multiple collections.. this will allow sneaky folks to have multiple collections to get around the 100 free item limit.. If the club inventory exceeds 100 items I will make that an unlimited free account (once we go online).
