I love MTH...I love DCS.

Suddenly, the display on my handheld was frozen and all locomotives (4) three PS-3 and one PS-2 were relegated to inactive list.  I replaced batteries...checked and rechecked wiring...from Z-4000 to TIU (version 5.0 and the red light is glowing). I couldn't even get the emergency ALL STOP button to function.

After removing batteries, first time, still frozen to inactive engines list.  After going more slowly the second time, roller dial worked until I pressed it to select "add an MTH engine"...then it froze again.

It is an early TIU and handheld...do I need to buy a new one?  Is a seasoned man of God likely to succeed in replacing the 20 amp fuses inside the TIU?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Bradley W Ketcham+

My brothers and friends... you won't believe it!

Last night after a long day ended, I decided to try to disassemble the remote handheld to see if all looked okey dokey inside.

I had read a series of threads in this forum about how to carefully work the 2 halves of the DCS handheld apart after removing the tiny somewhat hidden Phillips-head screw in the battery compartment.

Barry Broskowitz and his cautions about turning it in to an authorized tech almost made me send the thing to my good friend in Des Moines, Donald Lewis...but I thought, "Hey, what's the worst that could happen?  Besides, I don't know about Mr. Broskowitz, but Donald would be proud of me for giving it a go!"

After a great deal of careful, really careful and gentle squeezing, alas, it began to open.  Knowing in advance, from Barry's warning, there were, within, wires easily pulled apart I carefully laid the now separated handheld before myself.

After a brief look at the "innards," I carefully attempted to make certain the "top" board was  firmly seated in the "mother" board.  Though I thought it was secure, I wiggled it up and down, ever so slightly, and, then, carefully reassembled the handheld.

IT WORKS!

I had to tell you guys first!  Thanks for encouraging me...

Jesus is with you,
