Recently, my MTH handheld remote has problems reliably sending commands to the TIU.  This includes no increase in speed as the "wheel" is turned (speed remains at 0), not shutting an engine down following a command to do so.  Occasionally, I also notice a (T) displayed to the right of the engine name.  I changed the batteries in the remote, but the bad behavior continues.  Of course I have train friends coming over tomorrow to see my layout.  Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to fix it would be appreciated

I am going to switch to my iPhone / iPad and see if the control is more stable.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

First, the "(T)" indicated that the remote is tethered to the TIU by connecting a telephone handset cable (thee curly kind) between the bottom of the remote and the TIU's Remote Input port. That's the only way that the "(T)" can appear.

Second, if the transceiver board has become loose in either the TIU, the remote or both, you could experience the behavior that you describe.

John - I would love to switch to wifi, I really enjoy the latest technologies.  But, I continue to find the handheld unit to be much more reliable.  And, the iPad works a bit better than the iPhone device, but why?  And, by better I mean that often times the iPhone isn't able to find/access an engine ... just experienced this ... very frustrating!  Perhaps I don't have the latest software load, but I updated everything about 6 months ago.   Anyway, the trains are on schedule using the handheld remote.  Tom
