I was running my FEF again tonight and when I apply the bell sound, I hear a very faint whistle/higher pitch sound (almost like when you get a busy signal when making a phone call...same rhythm).  You can't really hear it when the rail sounds are up, but it's definitely present when the sounds are off and only the bell is on. Strange.  Was just curious if anyone has noticed this with any of the other Legacy steamers.  I couldn't detect it on the M1b or the K4, but it's certainly there with the FEF.

If you have an FEF, I'd be curious if anyone else's is like this.  I'm not going to take it apart, but I found it odd.  Still my favorite engine!

Have a good night.

Good question, Rick.  I have no idea.  It just sounds like a faint busy signal (hum), triggering about every second as long as the bell is being rung.

Maybe someone will chime in as to whether the sound is prototypical.
