When things get back to the new normal I am thinking of organizing a trip to New York City from Buffalo and Rochester with my train club.  I have several questions for anyone who has rode on a Webb Rail charter?

  • How much did your round trip cost and where did it depart and return?
  • Is the rate dependent on how many passengers are booked for the trip?
  • Being based out of Albany, would Webb Rail be able to arrange to have #549 depart from Buffalo and Rochester to NYC on an early train Friday and return on a later train on Sunday from NYC?
  • With the height of the dome car would it be able to run into Penn Station?
  • Is there a Webb Rail or Amtrak conductor for the car?
  • Where do passengers for the charter put their luggage?
  • Does Webb Rail put together any packages?
  • Any other information would be appreciated?

You wont get it into Penn Station. Even when Amtrak had their dome doing the Leaf Peeping Specials, the car was added in Albany. The tunnels and the Catenary wont allow it.

You're going to have to pay for the use of the car and all of the switching charges and what not to use it. Amtrak wont drop the car in route, it will have to go terminal to terminal. If you wanted to use it friday and sunday, you're still going to have to pay for the use of it on saturday, pay to have it switched off the train and stored in a yard, put back on and so forth.

It costs a fortune. My club did a few trips in a private car some years back, we did it as a round trip in a day, it was 6 or 8 grand AND we had a guy who was in the club that owned the car, which got us a "deal".
