This thread isn't intended to be a bashing thread. About 6 months or more ago, I got an email from OGR talking about a partnership with Model Railroad Academy. I signed up for it at the time. I have decided to unsubscribe and why is really immaterial to my question. I have tried unsubscribing twice and I am still getting regular emails. Has anyone else had this experience? If so, how did you resolve it? Thank you.

I would also like to know. They keep trying to charge my credit card and I keep declining the charge.
I unsubscribed successfully, but it took over a week...both times.
I had unsubribed once before when I was using windows, it took time then too. The site never worked properly enough for me to view much, this time not at all, so I unsubribed.
I would never enter enter a card number online. The big names can't even keep email syncing straight anymore, so no telling what happens to any data being sent....likely ever.
I have found that most Unsubscribe actions do nothing more than to confirm that your e-mail address exists and that there is someone at your end of it - Unsubscribe tends to be an information gathering tool and little else.
If you're just talking about emails and not them trying to bill you for a subscription then the easiest recourse would likely be just having your virus/malware program id those emails as spam and when received automatically have them deleted from your spam folder. As for repeated billing attempts try alerting your cc provider to never accept charges from them.
It's a same some folks here got tapped by a spam operation via this forum.
IF it annoys you that much, redirect it to your Spam folder and just delete! I don't even bother opening up anything in my spam folder unless it's truly a site[ like 3rd rail] that sometimes hits it.

Would you like to explain that accusation? We have NEVER done anything that would be legally considered to be spam.
We have sent emails to our email list on behalf of the Model Railroad Academy, but every email address on that list opted in at some point and gave us explicit permission to send them emails. If you opted in to our list and then get an email from us, that's not spam.
I'm fully aware that I can direct the emails to a spam folder or block the sender. Learned that 20 years ago. I was hoping that there was some other way to do this.
I don't see the site as a scam. I opted in. The experience just wasn't what I had hoped for.
I have unsubscribed. I had to call them to do it. After that all emails stopped, as did the billing.
I personally know one of the guys behind MRA. It was an interesting concept, but the execution falls a bit flat. They even asked me to help them with some 3 rail content, but that seems to have fallen by the wayside.
I couldn't see the value form the get go. There is so much content on YouTube for free and so much knowledge on the various forums I just couldn't see paying for it.
I never signed up for the paid content. The free newsletters are good, just a bit infrequent.

Rich, perhaps my post was poorly worded as I never meant to suggest OGR is a spammer guilty of sending spam to its forumites. I was talking about MRA. While I've never opted for a paid membership as some folks have, I'm barraged almost daily with numerous and variying offers from MRA to purchase a paid subscription. despite many efforts using their unsubscribe button to stop such emails.

That is the way I took your post, you subscribed with MRA and couldn't get them to stop. Saw nothing inferring OGR.
I haven't unsubscribed but as soon as I signed up for whatever their last cheap one-year deal was I emailed them directly and asked not to automatically renew. I got a note saying it had been done.

Rich, can you explain the opt in or opt out? I don't see the ability to do that anywhere. I've never had occasion to look for it either, but I'm just curious.
I bought in at the discounted rate, then unsubcribed when the renewal was about due. My CC was charged anyway. I no longer get their emails but was charged again after I had already cancelled renewal notice.
It's advisable to never give anyone your CC info for a continuing charge. Ever. You can do without almost anything, you know, even though modern commercial brainwashing is almost complete.
My first Internet provider - this was, indeed, 20 years ago - would not stop charging my card, regardless of what I did, until I (politely) threatened them with my lawyer.
I have a simple, retired life - but I have almost completely stopped using my CC (I only have one). Cash (preferably) or check or I don't buy it, 90% of the time. I do have a PayPal account, which gets a little use (eBay - big surprise!). Not much.

Every email we send contains an opt-out link within the email message itself. This is a legal requirement for all mass emails.
OK, that makes sense. I wondered about that as I've never really looked for it.
I find the almost weekly reduced rate e-mails to be bordering on funny to mildly annoying! I'm holding out for the offer where they pay me to join! We may be getting close! LOL

Maybe it's a matter of better screening by OGR. As several folks have commented, and I too am experiencing this - an MRA barrage of spam despite repeatedly opting out. It's really annoying and reflects on OGR, whether you like it or not. Why? Because I, like many, don't have the time to decipher the details of this annoying situation and chalked it up to a product of my connection to the OGR forum.
Unless it's a major organization like a well known retailer or business, I NEVER use the opt out. I find that in many cases, that just results in more SPAM. I just point my junk filter at them and their messages go away from then on.
MRA was spammy for sure.
A few advertisers I've signed up for newsletters from got spammy. (Once a week is plenty )
OGRF is not spammy.
