I was at a model train show yesterday (in the Pac NW) and asked around, nobody has seen the most current OGR, not even subscribers, but people in the east have gotten there copies well over a week ago.

I am a new subscriber, from the end of November. I never got issue 303 because I'd assumed it was come and gone by then and I was wondering if maybe my address didn't get added to the print listing. But to find out nobody around here has it almost 10 days after the right side of the country... That's really odd. We're used to the east coast getting everything first (MR, NMRA magazine, etc), but this long with no issue in sight?

Is this normal?

I find your post interesting and surprised no one has responded.  I have been a subscriber for a long time and never had any problems. Reach out to them and I am sure the will all make good.

I didn't reach out to anyone yet because I wasn't sure if there was an issue to report yet.  Like I said, I asked around at a show yesterday and nobody in this area has 304 yet, not subscribers, vendors, anyone. I even called the regional hobby shops who usually carry it before the mainstream vendors, and they don't have it either.

Yet, someone reported almost 10 days ago getting his copy in the east...

As this would be my first subscription copy, I was wondering if this is normal for the west coast to get theirs many days after those in the east. I know that Kalmbach usually gets theirs out to east and midwest subscribers first, but never this long a timeframe.

CTT is worse. Sometimes I get an issue here in L.A. three weeks late. Occasionally, never at all. By the time I get a rePlacement copy, another month can go by.

CTT doesn’t bag their mags and I think that is a problem. Often, my mailing label is hanging by a thread when it arrives.

i once inquired about a missing train mag at the local P.O. when I lived in Ohio, and the postal worker said, “Yeah, some of our guys in the sorting area like to read the train mags before they send them along.” So maybe there’s that, too!

When I lived in Florida, I saw someone reading an extremely rare non-train magazine and I thought only one guy in town could subscribe to that. The postal carrier was reading it in a fast food place. I had my camera and snapped a shot and gave it to the guy who's magazine it was. He'd been getting them awfully late and he had evidence of it then. Went right to the post master of the town. He got them much faster after that!

I subscribed to a British military vehicle magazine for one year. Half the issues never showed up. I'd have to write the editor every other issue asking for a replacement. Eventually I just bought them at the local Barnes and Noble to be sure I got them.

Guys....welcome to the publishing world!  No rhyme or reason as far as when the magazine makes it across country.  One thing that you will notice is that your OGR magazine will be arriving more closely to the cover date than it has in past years.  For a long time the magazine would arrive two months prior to cover dates and this caused a lot of confusion.  Advertisers never knew what kind of inventory they would have months before their deadlines to get ads in to us...so I got to work on that problem which resulted in an agreement with the printer to move the deadlines closer to cover dates.  So....Run 304 is in the delivery process right now.  Some of you have received it and others will be getting it soon...within the next few days.  Run 305 (April/May) went to design yesterday and is scheduled to go out for delivery beginning the end of the first week of March.

As a side note, there is another reason why run 304 is running a little late.   The postal check that we paid into our USPS account was delayed by 10 days due to the government shutdown....yep, even though the USPS is not supposed to be affected by things like this, other government agencies that do payment processing have been affected.  This is resulting in many of you getting the run 304 Feb/March edition later than usual.  In any case, hang on guys and gals....it is coming and everything is just fine.

To answer Farmer Bill above...the print edition is generally finished before the digital mag files are completed.  Depending on how much more material is added to the digital edition will sometimes make it take longer to get online.  There are other factors like making sure all of the live links work properly along with any updates and adjustments to the reader program (which we just went through) that need to be made can affect when the digital is available.

We thank all of you that support OGR through your subscriptions....!!!

Alan
