Has this happened to you, MTH upgrade gone bad

I am having an issue . I have a PRR k-4 that I had to upgrade to a 3v from 5v. the sound is perfect in DCS running on my layout for an hour. Eery function is perfect.

Then in conventional the sound is very very low and garbled, no whistle or bell in

but when I try it back in DCS , without touching the tether, it is fine. I have reset it, checked the conenctions to the speaker, the tether is tight, and checked the volume control.

What is weird, is without the engine moving , the DCS is perfect sound, turn it off and try conventional, there is no sound , but the engine will move and puff.

have no idea what to do! I am just waiting to hear from my sensai to shed some light

Have you turned up the volume pot? It's only a factor when running conventionally. Also, perhaps the pot was incorrectly wired when the swap to the 3 volt board was done.

yeah tried the volume, what is the wiring for the pot

Check the MTH protosound2.com web site for the upgrade kit instruction manual. It'll be in there.

thanks, I just looked it over, I think that is the issue, but the schematic is going to be different for me. I left the orginal 5v wiring layout in place.

Just want to make sure that you had the complete transition done when going from 5v to 3v boards. You should have had a MTH 3v board with 5v connectors, changed out the 8.4v battery for a 3v type and the speaker should have been changed to a 4 ohm. Were all of these changes made?

If they weren't he would not have normal sound via DCS:-) From the 12 pin connector the wires to the smoke pot are in a row and the same, whether 3V or 5V board. G
