I was at York looking for the atlas stream series of cars and found a guy with a bunch of cars that was selling his collection, after talking to him for a while I found out that he lived 15 mins away, and that we both drove 10 hours to go to York. We knew some of the same people. If I had know I would have saved 9 + hour of driving!!!

Through this forum I met someone with a OGR "featured layout" about a 30 minute WALK from my house.
It's a small world but I have yet to have this happen to me. I don't believe there are many O gaugers within 15 minutes of me.
Not from where we live, Forest. I think there were only three of us from the entire state at this Meet.
I didn't have your experience but the Detroit area has a lot of toy train nuts. So yes through the course of the day I see some and others I know are there never appear.
I've met several people who live close to me. I also look at the first listing for new TCA members, and notice names of folks who live close by.

We met a couple guys from our home State of Maine this past York. We're more like 2+hours apart, but we enjoyed meeting and who knows--may get together sometime. We have a new TCA member right in the town where we live; I've left a couple voicemails for him, welcoming him to the TCA, but never heard back.
Not York, but I once met someone at the big model train show in Timonium, MD and long story short, we got to talking about the RR I model today. Turned out, he grew up about 100 yards from the house I grew up in, and about the same timeframe. Both of us were into trains even as kids, and we'd never met before then as he lived across the road my house was on, and that was the dividing line between school boundaries.
i was checking out some reefers at a table in the red hall and the fellow next to me commented on my Browns jacket. Turns out I just bought a house in the same Cleveland suburb he lived in. Small world, especially when your trying to fit in O-89 curves!!
Because of the Forum I met someone who lived on the other side of town, literally 3 minutes away. We were emailing each other for a while before we realized how close we were. We have since become friends. Strange world.
