My Lionel scale M1b lost 2 digits of its headlight number on the side of the headlight housing. I'm assuming these are decals. How difficult would it be to reproduce these?
What I've done to fix these is print the numbers white on black on plain paper on a laser printer. I use the LABEL setting to get nice dark background. I then use Tester's Clear Parts Cement to stick these to the plastic insert for the number board after cleaning off all the remains of the old numbers. A coat of clear sealer and all is well.
This was created using Evan's Hobby Cal. The technique is similar to John's but printed on Hobby Cal decal paper rather than plain white paper. The advantage is the white background on Hobby Cal can be made transparent by coating it with a solvent based varnish. Also is takes a very sharp image using only the plain paper setting.
Decal sets (water-slide and dry transfer - which themselves can be transferred to plain decal paper to turn them into water-slide decal) are available on eBay, from Woodland Scenics and Microscale.
Extra decals are always a good thing to have around.
