Today while working on the LSHR layout in Grapevine Texas, we had an unusual visitor. A helicopter was using the parking lot for take offs and landings to fairy people to and from the electric power towers they were working on.

That is interesting. By our club, the power guys were hanging in buckets to work on the lines.
We also had a medical helicopter doing emergency practice outside our club. It was amazing watching the landings.
Can't believe we were that close, but we were on the deck!
Very cool. Couldn't pay me enough to be the guy on the end of the tether.
I like how the frame rate on the camera made the rotors look like a pinwheel spinning in the breeze
Cool video, around 20 years ago we were building a school that was adjacent to some high voltage power lines. We saw a guy sitting on a platform attached to the skids of a helicopter working on the energized lines midway between two towers. Amazing to see the skill of the pilot staying perfectly still while the lineman worked on the energized line. I can imagine the size of the gonads they had and also the size of their paychecks for doing that type of work.
Dan,
I have seen videos of people working on power lines from helicopters, and it just looks scary as heck!
Here is a link, I hope, to my favorite helicopter lineman video on youtube. https://youtu.be/oBJyyEAw-6g
Huh! Real helicopters...l was expecting that somebody had used drone technology to model a miniature working helicopter for their layout.
Mowingman,
That the video I saw last year, it is very interesting and a little scary. Don't ground yourself!!!
Just watching the video of the workers being lifted -- and the closeup video of the fellow riding the skid up and climbing onto the high voltage line -- made the base of my spine tingle.
If I were that man, there would be news headlines: "Power Line Worker Faints and Falls to Death."
