Good afternoon folks, I found this "locomotive" and have no clue what I'm looking at.

The shell marking is 5344 J-le but it looks like they were added decals. There seems to be plastic piping on the outside of the shell as well.

The smoke box door opens and has an internal marking of 736 when you swing it open.

The rear truck is marked 700E-5

The motor assemble says Grease in and is labeled 773-10

I have not attempted to clean or open the motor yet.

I am assuming someone tried to pass this off as a 700e for quick money but I am thinking this is just a parts donor item.

Thanks for your expertise!

That’s a cobbled together pile of parts from a variety of engines,……the back of the chassis has been lopped off to accept whatever that abomination of a motor is, …..it looks like somebody hacked on a Pulmor from a diesel to make a motor fit………if the gear box and the drivers are good, and it’s all in quarter, it’d make a very interesting rescue with a can motor swap,…..it’s salvageable, but borderline….

yeah, yeah... but how can I  do it? that's the question I should've asked.

I spent some time searching for swap kits or brackets and I am finding zilch with the exception of a Frank Timko who had a website that is down.

Buy a bunch of machines, & get busy, ….all you need is a small mill, small lathe, a variety of hand tools, …..very doable……or get the Timko special and roll on, ….😉

If you don't have all the metal working tools you can mount the motor with adhesive caulk.  You will need to make sure the motor shaft is level with the gear box shaft.  But with patience and a little time you can make any adjustments with a file and dremel tool if needed.  You can shim up the motor with styrene if you need to raise of level it.  You can use shaft couplers used in RC cars to connect the two shafts.  Those even come with different diameters on each end.  I'd suggest a flywheel on the motor.

I've mounted many motors using the caulk method and they are still going strong after twenty years.
