I got back into trains when I recently decided to add a wall/ceiling layout to my office. Working on that project has me hooked and I am planning/buying parts for 2 prewar projects.

The first, is a fantasy passenger set that I have collected most the parts for.

The second,  I want to buy prewar o scale box cars, bead blast, repair, paint with modern auto paint, and apply reproduction 1930's era motorcycle graphics. I plan on 10 or cars to make this train. It will just be a lit display, nothing needs to work or move. I want to stick with 1930's cars to somewhat match my other project.  My question is which car should I choose as my base. I see a ton of #2679 baby ruth cars, for cheap, but I am unsure if they can be disassembled enough for a good prep/paint?  If you were undertaking this project which 1930's cars would you use? I would really like them to have the kind of trucks with the nickel or brass journals, that I will switch to all brass.

Thanks!

Ross
