Been asked by an out of state friend how to help them stop the sound coming from Thomas. Their grandchild is sensitive to noise and doesn't want to run the train.

Unbelievably apparently Lionel didn't include a way to fully disable the sounds. Can anyone show/tell me how and I'll relay it to them.

Thanks

Not sure if you can adjust the sound on those trains, that is a lionchief Thomas, not Bluetooth.  I have a similar Thomas and if you lift the hood off the cab there are switches to turn off sounds.  Unfortunately, it only eliminates some of the sounds not all of them.

If they want to get rid of the sounds maybe they can open up the engine and cut the wires to the speaker?

Thanks, their only solution may be to cut the wires. Hopefully they can get it running again. Still cannot believe Lionel didn't install a way to turn the sound off. Said tape over speaker wasn't enough. The poor kid went from looking forward to running the train to not playing with it now. Who designs this stuff?

Yeah I agree, especially that beep while the lionchief engine is on the powered track with no controller connected.

Following the directions above shouldn't have caused the train not to run. They should check batteries, track power etc all the usual stuff.

I'm going to get my Thomas on the track and see if I can recreate that issue and figure out how to fix it.

This version is very old.  The newer ones don't have such issues because they've learned their lessons.

This one's not worth the trouble.

Take one of the wires from the speaker, and cut it then connect the side going to the PCB to the switch, then the other part of the wire going to the speaker to the other side of the switch.  You may have to extend the wires to do this.

This will allow the switch to turn the sound all the way on/off.

That's sure not gonna make 'em happy to hear as the solution Mike!😁

That's the one thing that kind of bothers me, too.

How about when there are two or three? That constant chirping is mind numbing Alan!

I've passed this on, even if there isn't a local Lionel shop a DCC installer could assist them. Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

BoobyD,

I see what you're saying but ...

I assumed this was an attempt to solve the problem for a Christmas Eve or Day run around the tree. Tell me how someone would help fix this problem in time?  There are no good suggestions for a fix in this situation.

@Jim Sandman's suggestion was, and probably still is, the best one for this model, unless the your friend wants to buy a newer edition.  You may have been able to implement it within the time available.

How did it turn out?

Mike
