I have a f-7 ABA set , earlier version with TMCC & RS. Loco sound starts up fine, all coupler and sound commands work great, but as soon as it moves a couple inches everything goes black. The power supply breaker does not blow so it is something in the locomotive. It also does it whether the 2 other slaves are connected or not.
any thoughts on where to start?

The problem is in the leading A unit.
Open it up and look for loose wires, pinched wires, wires riding on the flywheel and wrecking the insulation.
Check that both pick up rollers are functional and hooked up.
Good luck getting the loco back together. If there ever was 10 pounds of stuff in a 5 pound bag, it's these locos.
