I have a TMCC Lionel Mikado #462 that just started running all by itself. I tried putting it in program mode and it still takes off by itself when I apply power to the track. Origionally, I turned power on to the track, punched in my Mikado engine code and nothing happened. I then physically pushed the engine forward and backward on the track which was still powered hoping that it was just on a dirty piece of track. Again, nothing, not even the whistle. I then turned the power off, turned it back on and then that is when the engine just took off on its own. Any ideas?

Are you using cab 1 or cab 2? Have you tried turning everything off then turn on remote base then turn on remote then apply track power?
I'm using Cab-1. All I had turned off was the transformer. I will try turning everything off and try again. I'll let you know.
It worked. Thank you. What would cause that and what difference would it make if I was using Cab-1 or Cab-2?
the base needs to be fully operating before track power. kind of like the way we learned to turn on computers. Turn on the monitor, and then turn on the computer.

Turning on the base first assures the loco "sees" the command signal before power is brought to the track. When powering the track first there is no command signal present at that very moment so the loco goes into conventional mode i.e. 18v= full throttle takeoff.
Thanks all of you, I'll have to remember that!
