Sure!  I heard of gi-raffes...

GEDC2638

And, of course, where there are trains, there is Norma Bates Kitteh, yard supervisor:

GEDC2637GEDC2640

For the record, I have seventeen gi-raffe cars, one steam loco, two electrics, one diesel-trolley loco, four cabooses, one spotlight car, one zebra car and, apparently, an honorary gi-raffe with a taste for ham.

On the actuators, could you post a close up of EXACTLY how they sit Mitch?

And there's only one size right?; not one for O ,& another for 0-27.

I didn't try long, but couldnt figure it out on either track ( or super o for that matter, lol.). Every position seemed to short or too tall.

(Have you seen the "scrouner's corner" thread? )

1) Will try to do so this weekend.

2) Right.  Only the brakeman had two different sized contacts.

3) Basically, the pointy bits of the cam are supposed to go into the web of the rail.  Don't worry about 'too tall', as they're spring loaded.

4) Nope!  Link, please!

Mitch

My pleasure Sir...just like the Ritz, eh? The hoopla composer and this "droid" aren't on speaking terms again today. (New issues twice daily) so all you get is the long version. No pretty blue relevant text turned to a link, but at least I can open the search menu today (but can't keep a space from vanishing, so maybe a few carriage returns?...yep, but now I can only read two lines..what a messed up toy OS.) https://ogrforum.com/t...34#66610802199766434

And it removed the extra two lines, lol.

No hurry on that, but if you can show the "Pointy Bits" that would be great. I think mine might have been removed for some reason. Likely something to do with the change to GG track that made Gramps modify the Gi-raffe cars to work stationary off a #90 and uncoupler. You can't tell, but he would have blued the raw metal deeply anyhow.

Thank you. I had it right, my pointy tabs are there, I thought maybe there was more. It mounts right, BUT, it doesn't work. It is too short along the top edge and falls short of hitting the yellow bar by 1/8". The car is missing the metal rub peices for the plastic bar's ends, but even if they were on it would be 1/16" too low to even touch the bar, let alone push it up. The actuator rail still has its edge ridges from being stamped out, so it's not modded. My conclusion is I just have a stinker of a part...or the wheels or trucks are replacements and the car itself is sitting too high now??? Ever seen that?

Anyhow thanks again. And by that I mean I think you actually answered this for me once a year or two ago and I forgot, pushing to the back burner. (PITA, I know ) And thanks for linking too, because I followed other links there to threads on homebrew actuators, and I was reminded I liked the plexiglass and bent metal bar versions very much.

You know, with the hide n' go seek action on these cars, I'm sort of surprised Norma Bates Kitty doesn't on occasion bop the little gi-raffes on the head bouncing them around for fun. She must know they are something special. But if you could catch her doing it on video and give it the "slashing" music from Psycho in the background it just might go "viral" on YouTube.

Norma could then buy her own tuna, freeing up more of Mitch's money for a larger herd

Hum!  No, I haven't.  Could you post a photo?

Hee hee hee!  That WOULD be amusing...

Answering a question that nobody asked:

GEDC2658

Or, "How Many Gi-raffes Can You Fit On A Marx Display Layout?"

Or, "Annual Meeting of Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe, Gi-raffe and McCormack" (McCormack, of course, is in the caboose...)

Mitch

Scrut-ing the inscrutable since early last week...

Well Mitch, I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but clearly the accident is entirely your fault for failing to appropriately place some of those Gi-raffe Actuator thingies on the layout. And if you don't like it, you can leave in a huff. If that's too soon, you can leave in a minute and a huff.

I'm in a hurry.  I'll take a taxi in a huff.

If you come anywhere near a song why don't you play it?

You can't afford it.  If we don't rehearse, we don't play and that runs into money!

Did someone call for a song???

Hello, I must be going.
I cannot stay,
I came to say
I must be going.
I'm glad I came
but just the same
I must be going.

For my sake you must stay,
for if you go away,
you'll spoil this party
I am throwing.

I'll stay a week or two,
I'll stay the summer through,
but I am telling you,
I must be going.

Dr. Fauci has just issued a health risk warning for giraffe's riding in Lionel train cars, and it appears he might be right this time. An intruder has showed up on my layout and giraffe's are on the menu.

I guess I have no choice but to give Fudd Wailwoad Security Services a call and see what they can do!

TAZ Giraffe Car 2

Well, I just spoke to Fudd Wailwoad Security Services. Unlike some of our beloved train companies, they answered the phone immediately. Unfortunately, I was told, it is still "Duck Season" so there's not much they can do.

Giraffe fun facts:

A group of giraffes is actually called a tower.  They spend most of their lives standing including sleeping.  In fact they sleep only 5-30 minutes in a 24 hour day.  Most of that is done in naps lasting only a couple of minutes at a time.

I would love to have a giraffe car on my layout, but I don't think my tunnel openings will allow them.
